Nissan Altima SE-R.What the hell?

I'm sitting at a red light on the way home and notice a red Altima SE-R continuosly creeping up on my bumper. So being the person that I am, I took off from the light when it turned green and so did he. We're heading down a straight country road so I continue to push it until we are at about 100. I look in the rear view mirror and that sucker is right on my bumper. I know we have the same engine but I didn't expect it to hang with the G that well. How many HP does it have? We were both driving sticks. I need to find him after bonus time after I go FI.

It's part of the VQ family so it does deserve respect, but it isn't a G.

or could the reason been that nissan just purposely under estimate the hp ratings on diff cars.. even when they may have much closer hp # than they advertised?

for example, Z has 300hp/G has 298hp. do u really believe there is a diff? lol
or the 287hp Z nad 280hp G.. uh.. yeah..!
obvoiusly, they would have to say the altima "only" has 260hp..so it doesnt get in the territory of the Z/G.
i would think the hp rating are alot closer than they advertise.

how much does an Altima SE-R weight? if it puts out close to G hp and with similar or lighter weight, its no surprise that they can keep up.

on a side note, a good driver can make up for the slight advantage the G may enjoy

I traded my 02 Alti for my G and I'll tell you my stock G would lose out of the hole for sure!!!!!!! Later on it might be close but it might be over by then too. I had an 5 speed SE and the difference between them an the SE-R was I believe 10 ponies. Nissan did this by chocking off the exhaust. If you look at the stock set-up they have a huge *** resonator and a section that is actually crimped. Stock piping is 2.25" and the crimped part is pretty much half that if that at all. Once you get good breathing on the Altima's VQ, it'll haul ***. I know of a guy from the Nissanclub forum who has his running 260 fwhp on a NA VQ. He has all the breathing mods and a greddy e-manage. Not bad.......... imagine if he had cams????

There was once a video that 350Z get beat by a Maxima, so..... I wouldn't be surprised that an Altima SE-R is as fast as a G.
FWD doesn't necessarily mean it can't be as fast as the G. In some way, FWD means it is faster in the straight line.... but in the twisties, thats a whole different ball game....
