Crazy insect
Saw this beautiful insect out on the lake during vacation. It seemed to be some sort of wasp that had killed the turantula lying next to it. Every time i got close with the camera, it would turn its back and stick its rear up in defense. I'm thinking of using this picture for the Bokeh contest this week but i'd rather get a sharper shot with my 85 1.8 as this was with my tammy 2.8 @ 50mm.

Wow nice pic! It's amazing the wasp got angry vs flying away.

Wow, impressive. I'd take a picture with a 300mm, lol. I wouldn't want to get near that thing and get stung.

it did fly around a couple times, but i just backed up and everytime it would go right back to the turantula. I was holding the camera away from me and shooting away since i had to get about 8" away from it to get a good picture, there was no way my face was going that close to it. But it was cool to observe it for the 10 minutes i was taking pictures of it.

For those who dont know....
The tarantula hawks seeks out a tarantula then stings, paralyzes, but doesn't kill the spider. Next the wasp drags the spider back into its own burrow where a single egg is laid on the spider’s body, and the entrance is sealed. The wasp larva, upon hatching, begins to suck the juices from the still-living spider. After the larva grows a bit, the spider dies and the larva plunges into the spider's body and feeds, avoiding vital organs for as long as possible to keep it fresh. The adult wasp emerges from the nest to continue the life cycle. |
