Glamour Photo's
I've been a little busy this week shooting with my girl, trying new things out for her makeup and for my skin smoothing techniques. I used the 85 for some of the pictures and the Tammy 17-50 for others but as much as i love the 85 for its sharpness, i've been finding myself using the 17-50 much much more when i do these shots as it offers more versatility. I can only get head shots with the 85 because of the limited space in my apt. But i'm really loving doing something new in photography! C&C as you please. Enjoy!

I've had the Tammy for over a year now, used it on my 350D and now on my 40D, it was my only lens for a while, i absolutely love it! -GP- |

The 85 1.8 makes a great portrait lens, if you have the space. Given your situation, the 17-50 is the obvious choice. You don't need an incredibly fast lens like the 85 1.8 for these shots, anyway. Given a different environment, like a large studio or outdoors, the 85 1.8 would work great.
I know I asked you this before, but are you pointing the LS directly at her, or just purely bouncing it? Is the 580EX at full power? Great composition and great shots, Grant. BTW - get me a pic of the setup next time you shoot. I know you've explained it to me, but I'm a visual person. I need some inspiration to see what I can do with tight spaces like my own apartment.

Thanks Cal! I vary it, sometimes it's directly on her, and sometimes i bounce it off the ceiling or the wall next to her. I have it at +1/3 or +2/3 depending on how far away i am. I ended up just taking down the reflector as it wasnt making much of a difference. -GP- |

Wow Grant, awesome shots, an improvement over your last set (an those were sweet shots too). I like them all. Excellent composition and use of lighting. Was there any natural light or other light in the room? Can't see any wrinkles in your black fabric, any tips on how you get the clean black background? Can you post a link to your flickr! account so we can see the exif data?

Thanks Marcus, here's the link.
http://flickr.com/photos/gp-photography/ I actually started taking them with no light in the room. The blinds and doors are closed, i just pop the bathroom door open slightly so i can get the smallest amount of light to be able to focus correctly The easiest way i've found to get the background a solid black is to have her stand a few feet away from it, the first time i had both the girls standing right against it so i could have more room to move around, but ultimately its not about me, its about the pictures, so i have her stand further away at the expensive of my mobility around the room. But it works! -GP- Last edited by Gdup35sedan : 08-05-2008 at 10:19 PM. |
