Getting ready to do a small shoot. Need some tips
I'm getting ready to do a little shoot of my car.
Got a few locations picked out. Need some pointers/suggestions on the angles. Car is nothing aggressive, so I don't want to do lot's of upclose shots. I'm a fan of a pictures with background any suggestions of good angles to make car look good? Feel free to post sample pix.

He likes to do allot of odd/aggressive close up shots. And in other shots car takes up most of the picture. My car is not that heavily moded, so close up odd and aggressive shots will not work that well. I'm not saying I aint going to try it tho ![]() I'm trying to make this shoot about backgrounds as much as about G.

rule of thirds is a good guideline to follow for most shots

Ok, sounds like you have a pretty good idea of what you like anyway. A few simple suggestions - don't do your shoot in direct sunlight. It washes out the colors and causes reflections. Try shooting early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Also, keep the sun at your back if at all possible - makes for nice exposures. Rule of thirds - pretty simple. Only allow your car to take up 1/3 of the frame. You can look at the picture as 9 equal squares (draw two lines vertically and two lines horizontally and you'll get your 9 sqaures) only let your subject take up 3 of them. Find a background that doesn't take away from the car - I like mountains myself. But if you don't have any of those lying around, try some cool urban backgroud stuff - shipping containers, grafitti walls, a prison, etc. When you're composing your shot, try tilting the camera a little horizontally. Not much, just a little. Adds some character to the shot. The four corners is a good suggestion - try turning the wheels a little bit so the car doesn't look so square. You can also try sitting down really low and looking up at the car - or getting up a story or two and shooting down on it. Change the perspective a little bit. |

thank you for the tips fellas.
BTW. Here are some pictures that I have taken earlier. Feel free to browse through them and maybe pint out bad habits that I should try and stay away from. Attempt to take some bad a$$ pictures.(IP G+NISNO+M45wheels+JOKER=Dangerously HOTT) IP G35+M45 whels dropped on 350z H-Tech G35 IP Coupe+M45 Sport Wheels Fall Pictures Weakend Photoshoot (PIX) I know lightning SUX on most of them.

I like the fall shots - used to live up there myself a few years ago. The lighting pretty much sucks all the time though lol.
Do you have a flash? If so, try using a diffuser - you can use a coffee filter for the same effect - it prevents the harsh flash look but you still get the nice fill flash effect. And your car looks by the way. I really like the way the M45 wheels look. Nice and clean. |

Like others said, try to use the rule of thirds and go to shoot when the light isn't harsh, around sunset, sunrise or on an overcast day.

Study the pictures on Top Gear's website. I think they have some of the best photographers and film crews around.
