Nice shots Dan,

For a sec there I didn't understand what the hell was going on, expecting to see the downtown skyline to the left of the Brooklyn bridge. Took me a moment to realize you were shooting FROM the city towards Brooklyn... duh

Thanks D,

Yeah, I've been walking past this shot for the last 3 years trying to figure how best to capture it. i realized today probably would have been a better day for HDR w/ all the clouds in the sky.

Did you actually take multiple exposures for each scene? Because I don't really see the "high dynamic range" in these photos. They actually look a bit flat, kinda greyish, not much punch or contrast to them. You'd probably been better off shooting these with a circular polarizer. Also composition wise, try to avoid having the horizon / water line in the middle. Applying the rule of thirds would be good.

yeap, multiple exposures. i'll agree that there's not as much tone adjustment as other HDR images that have been posted previously, i just took the defaults that photomatix did.

Nice shots; what I would do (a little bit unrealistic but if you use Photomatrix...) turn down Micro smoothing to 0; and Microcontrast to 0. Then put Light smoothing to high (fiddle with strengths). Will really bring out some detail to the clouds. Ah just realised these are your finished shots (was going to show you; haha).

Hey Dan! Great captures.

I hope you don't mind that I edited it a little. Just my rendition of the photo.

I had the same problem with your "UFOs". On high aperture, dust on the sensor shows up like a sore thumb. Just clean your sensor. As for the pictures already taken, it's nothing a lil' photoshop can't remove.
