Testing ND filters

I promised Cal I was gonna test these by the end of last week but I failed to meet the deadline...

Taken with a 10-22 + CPL + 2 stop ND Filter + 4 stop ND filter - all stacked on top of each other.

2.5 sec exposure @ f4 | ISO100 - taken midday with clear sunny skies

he's got a rig i believe...

some photographers stack up to 9 stops to get some magnificent color/saturation... or in his case a nice motion effect.

Thanks,

It was taken midday with sunny skies. Stacking so much light blocking was a must in order to get a 2.5 sec exposure @ 4 and above.

My rig - behind the scenes

Wow, loving the rig set-up. Any risk of hitting the camera against another car?

LOL, there is a BIG risk. That thing hangs of the car like a monster crane. That's why you don't do it on public roads...

The shot above was taken in my driveway.

Very nice Daniel, your rig shots are sweet man. Just curious, how fast were you going? With a 2.5 second exposure I would have expected more blur in the background [but that's coming from someone whose never used a setup like this before].

Thanks Marcus.

I was rolling down in Neutral in my driveway. Probably around 2-3mph at the most.

sick. I've been meaning to make a rig, but haven't had time.

I think with a couple Dent King dent pullers, some aluminum tubing, and my trusty welder I might could come up with something. lol

That's freakin' sweet man. That's quite the stack filters you got there too. Costs almost as much as a new lens

Pretty creative work on the rig too. Very nice set-up

Is that pic cropped? because I get vignetting on my 10-22 when using a normal filter, what type of vignetting are you getting with that many stacked together at 10mm?

Also does anyone know how you calculate the effect when stacked? Is it multiplied or added?

I'm looking at the B+W #110 ND 3.0 which is a 10 stop filter for $100 would that be overkill or just right?

The pic is not cropped, but it was taken @ 14mm. Yes, when stacking filter you should expect vignetting. I'm not sure about the formula though.

As for filters... Don't waste your money with BH. http://hvstar.net/ carries quality filters for a fraction of the cost. The only downside is that they are located in Hong Kong and it may take a week or two to get them, but unless you are in a big rush, I'd recommend going with them and saving some $$$.

They have some good prices but don't appear to have the 10 stop filters
