Taking Pride in Being Ignorant

So Obama's opponents have decided to mock his suggestion that we could save energy by better maintaining our vehicles and properly inflating our tires. I caught a bit of his response today in a speech he gave in Ohio:

"So now the Republicans are going around - this is the kind of thing they do. I don't understand it! They’re going around, they're sending like little tire gauges, making fun of this idea as if this is 'Barack Obama's energy plan.' Now two points, one, they know they're lying about what my energy plan is, but the other thing is they're making fun of a step that every expert says would absolutely reduce our oil consumption by 3 to 4 percent. It’s like these guys take pride in being ignorant.

"You know, they think it is funny that they are making fun of something that is actually true. They need to do their homework. Because this is serious business. Instead of running ads about Paris Hilton and Britney Spears they should go talk to some energy experts and actually make a difference."

I've been trying to find a good video of this since I got home, but this is the best I've found so far:

a little commentary for ya. My favorite line: "for a 25 dollar donation, McCain will send you an Obama tire pressure guage. Last checked on amazon, it's worth 89 cents."

So they are "lying" about his plan? Well WHAT IS HIS PLAN? He doesn't have one. And McCain said that it won't cut our dependance on foreign oil, and that is true. So we save up to 3%, big deal. That is a tank and a half per year while driving 20,000 miles.

Did you even look for his energy plan?
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/energy/

3% is a large portion considering the amounts we're talking about. Take that 3%, add what we save by driving conservatively and taking shorter trips and you see our dependency drop dramatically.

Is McCain an expert on the economy? By his own admission: No.

By the way, a 3% cut is still a cut on our dependence on foreign oil

o common we all know obama has no course of action for this country...hes just a good talker and people are seeing throu it now....he just goes whatever way the wind blows on his policies and ends up catching himself up when he tries to please everyone and goes back on what he said before....truth be told but i dont like either of the candidates this year....atleast mccain will keep me with job security tho

^ job security? yeah, the guy who admits he knows little about the economy (mccain) will bring you job security. good luck with that buddy.

as for your 'no course of action' comment/joke, i guess ending the war in iraq, cutting needless subsidies to oil companies that are making billions in profit, providing healthcare to citizens, upholding a woman's right to choose, investing in alternative energy, and hunting down al quaeda in AFGHANISTAN don't cut it for you. we can disagree about whether his (or any politician's) policies are the best for the country, but you can't say he doesn't have a course of action.

3%? you've got to be kidding me...

unless everybody's car is built before the 1980's and requires a tune-up, and everybody is driving at 15 psi... then maybe yes.

but this is probably not the case. i'm wondering who is more ignorant... obama for saying it? or mccain for not exploiting obama supporter's ignorance about car manufacturing standards?

we should make that smart pedal by nissan mandatory.

You'd be surprised at how many cars you'll find on the road that haven't had their air filter cleaned in ages and whose tires are running low. Hell, I know people who've put off getting oil changes for over a year (needless to say, that car is dead). I've yet to meet the person who checks their tire pressure on a weekly basis.

You think 3% is nothing? how about 5% after 12 years? That's the impact offshore drilling will produce on US foreign oil dependency.
