This is getting way off topic, but I was also brought up in the Catholic church. What has turned me off is the church's stance on topics like birth control, abortion, etc. They mask their intentions as saving a life but appears to be more geared at growing their base and subsequently income. To be perfectly honest, anymore I see all organized religion as a giant pyramid scheme.

I was born into a deeply religious Roman Catholic family; I went through the indoctrination process...er...um..."sacraments" up until confirmation. I was top of the class at catechism, but remained skeptical of what I was being taught. No one had good a good enough answer to a lot of my questions like if there was any evidence whatsoever that God/Jesus existed outside of the bible. I was just told I had to believe or suffer the (unconfirmed) consequences. All that, coupled with the crazy whacked out things people do in the name of God, spelled the end to my religious associations as well as faith in a creator.

The best argument against the bible is the bible itself. If I'm to make my case that God either doesn't exist or does not subscribe to any religion, I have to know what I'm talking about. That's why I laugh whenever a Christian says "if you read the bible, you'd understand"

Eventhough I still believe that Jesus is my savior.....this was funny to me! Again, don't hate the religion, hate those that taint it!

Thanks, I was just curious.....and for you other guys too. As Liquid said though, why is the church against birth control if you can barely feed yourself? But that's for another thread.

The church would also hold the morality to teach accountability and responsibility to avoid the hungry to bring in more children into the world that they cannot sustain.

I know that if I can't afford a child - don't have one. That has nothing to do with abortion.

Where is this 'other thread' you speak of.
