NISSAN GT-R announced.....not a joke

Yes it is going to be a NISSAN, about 20 minutes ago nissannews .com released this statement.

NEW YORK (April 12, 2006) – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. President and CEO Carlos Ghosn today announced that the next generation of Nissan’s renowned GT-R performance car will be available in North America and badged as a Nissan model, consistent with its global branding. The GT-R, which was previewed in concept form as the GT-R PROTO (shown above), has not previously been offered for sale in North America. The GT-R will debut in production form at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. It is scheduled to go on sale in Japan in Fall 2007, followed by the U.S. and Canada in Spring 2008. More details on the launch of the GT-R will be available at a later date.

to view this press statement goto www.nissannews.com and in the breaking news section there is the article then off to the right there is a photo library, but i dont think the photos are anything new. sorry if this is a repost but i think the news is pretty new!

I like the idea of having it as a Nissan to keep it the same around the world, but the even better reason is that it will most likely be alot cheaper now that its branded as a Nissan and not and Infiniti.....hmmmm do I smell a college graduation present?!?!?! (I wish!)

And I think it's a better move as it's suppose to be a international car and Infiniti isn't established on a global market yet. It would cost too much to establish the Infiniti name world wide.

Will it still bear the name "SKYLINE" or just plain GT-R?

So the new GT-R and new Coupe concept are two different cars, correct? Now when the time comes to pick a new car, which will you more likely go with? I think the new coupe concept looked much better than the GT-R concept.

I take that back...I just looked up some more pics of the GT-R and it is pretty sweet!

i dont mind the nissan logo....especially for any real fan. they would prefer it, while maybe some unknowing folks might not like it.

speedoholic - its will just have only GT-R. they have separated the standard Skyline form the top of the line model GT-R. And now made it more apart by keeping it Nissan and the Skyline (G35) under Infiniti.

Could be worse. They could have badged it just a GT-R in the states and sold it at Infiniti dealerships, while the Nissan emblem was stuck on in the rest of the world. Can you imagine all the knuckleheads here who would object to someone adding the Nissan emblem to a GT-R sold in Infiniti showrooms?

True. mid 40's was a lot to pay 15 years ago. Today people are paying that for suv's. Plus, that was the Z, and this is the mighty GT-R, the Godzilla of Japan, which we've never been able to purchase until now. Porche beating performance for half the price. Plus the car has always been known as a Nissan anyways. Makes sense to me. I'm sure they'll make a spoofed up version for the infiniti line to battle the new Lexus LF-A anyways.

i was just talking to our GM about the GT-R and he told me he knew that it would be an Nissan but then he told me not to worry because we are getting another redesigned Q45, the CX (BMW X3 fighter) and, get this, a g35 coupe with a covertible hard top!!!!! No BS. Appearantly, our GM is a part of the Inifiniti advisory board and gets all the new scoops.
