My Kalbi (Korean BBQ Short Rib) 4 Pounds Beef Short Rib-"Flanken Cut" Cut crossway so you see 3 -1/2" thick pieces of the rib surrounded by good amount of meat 2 heaping tablespoons crushed garlic 1 Fresh Ginger root peeled & grated 1 cup Soy Sauce 1 carrot peeled & grated 2 Asian Pears peeled & grated 1/2 Yellow onion peeled & grated 1 bunch green onions chopped 1/4-1/3 cup toasted sesame oil 1/4 cup Mirin (Japanese rice wine) 1/4 cup fresh toasted sesame seeds ground (either use a CLEAN coffee grinder, or place in a Plastic zip loc bag and pound Semi Lightly with Large Serving spoon Few Teaspoons of Honey to taste, Shouldn't be TOO Sweet, As the other ingredients add sweetness also, carrot, asian pears, mirin, & Lastely Honey 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper-Or More If You Like more Spicy Wash & Let meat drain in collender mix all other ingredients in Large Mixing Bowl add meat and let marinade at least 4 hours can be done overnight but Not Longer than that The ginger will tenderize the meat Too much where it will start to fall apart. Store in Refrigerator, Before Grilling bring out of Refrigerator for at Least 1-2 hours throw on grill Medium heat, after 2-3 minutes or Side gets some nice grill marks flip over and repeat...... Then throw over cooked Short Grain Rice. Crack open Favorite Asian Beer & Enjoy. Oh Yeah Try using an "Asian Grater" or if you only have a Regular Cheese Grater use the smallest holes
