M2 Test Pipe/Y Pipe Review: NOT worth it
Hello all,
I am pretty new to this forum (posting wise). I did some searching, but was unable to find a thread that reviewed the M2 test pipes and m2 Y pipe.
If there is one I apologize in advance.
So I have a 2004 G35 sedan. I purchased the M2 test pipes and y pipe roughly 10 months ago. I live in Minnesota and they have seen one winter here.
Upon installation I found it was pretty straight forward. The problem initially was the y pipe and mid pipe were not the same size (was using a coupe mid pipe). I blew 4 gaskets until I found the proper size one .
Anyways, roughly one month after my installation I encountered another problem. The cheap gaskets the test pipes came with blew. So I replaced them with the OEM hard ones.
I blew 3 more mid pipe to y pipe gaskets along the road.
Several weeks ago (in April 2015) I once again heard my exhaust sound like it was leaking. I drove it without checking for about 2 weeks.
And then I looked at it. I found that the test pipes were cracked in three different places.
The places of cracks:
1) by o2 bung on passenger side
2) by o2 bung on driver side
3) by bracket on passenger side
I will post pics when I get back under there.
Then the Y Pipe...
Places of cracks on the Y pipe:
1) mesh on inside driver side was completely off
2) mesh on inside passenger side was completely off
3) weld in middle had two spots where it looked like the metal melted
Now this company advertised as it was stainless steel piping. The way it was cracked, melted, burnt makes me believe it was a stainless steel coating.
Anyways, I spent roughly $200 on this setup, which is not a substantial amount.
After my experience I would not WASTE my money on M2 Products again.
Live and you learn I guess (but I still cannot justify paying $400 for test pipes or a y pipe).
I hope this helps other G35 drivers.
