Attn: Vortech owners/prospects...upgrade part

Hello,

Recently I did some work with Injen Technology and had them create a new pipe to replace the current triple connection (ugly) pipe that the Vortech comes with out of the box. So, instead of have a pipe come off of the throttle body, sleeve into the STOCK (ugly) abs black MAF housing, then bolt back into the intercooler piping only to take a drive back down to the bottom of the engine, Injen has created a single pipe (polished) that has the MAF housing welded in and looks AWESOME! You can see some examples of it in the pics below. Notice one of the pics, I'm holding the old, replaced part next to the newly created, polished part. Looks way better. Also, this pipe is bent slightly different to allow the oil stick to be better accessed and it DOESN'T rub against your coolant line. It is also 3" in diameter instead of 2 3/4. I've tested before and after and this does not affect the A/F #'s at all. Actually, my car seems to start up and shut down cleaner without the violent shutter. I am not claiming ANY hp out of this, but the dyno at Injen showed 5 hp increase. I'd say this is a cosmetic upgrade that will be well worth the money. This is good for ANY VQ35/Vortech install. If you are interested, email me in the interim and as soon as I have a few prospects, I'll ask about pricing. randys_g@yahoo.com

Looks like it's time for Vortec and Injen to have a little chat. Good work!

That's a silly question. Of course it's for real. You saw the pics. I'm waiting to meet up with a 350z owner in my area to test fit it to make sure it fits on Vortech'ed Z's too. Thanks for your patience.

I've got a G35 coupe and will be installing a Vortech SC in the last week of February. Any chance the part will be available by then for the G?

Randy, the stock MAF is calibrated for a certain diameter housing. If you increase the housing diamter...which you did...you WILL alter the state of tune. Your MAF will be reading a certain voltage of AIR, but MORE air will be going into the engine. Your car could run lean.

Now, its possible that the ECU leaned this new air flow level, and made adjustments to fuel trim....which is why you looked ok on the dyno. But I am just saying be careful, and make sure you test this on a few other cars. Our stock ECU has a way of going crazy from time to time.

This is the reason that with the Greddy kit.....the stock MAF housing is bolted to the 3inch piping. And the APS kept the same diameter piping, but ditched the stock plastic housing.

I considered your concern when having them build this...that is why we threw it on a dyno and made sure my A/F was still good...and since we were taking the A/F well after the MAF (and before the cats), I'm pretty confident about the part. I've ran my car 22 times, taking it to redline in every gear, down the 1/4 mile track since and no issues whatsoever. It'll be back on the dyno tomorrow to see what it puts down since the pipe upgrade and the GATES belt upgrade (no more belt slippage means full boost attainment unlike my prior runs with the stock belt that Vortech sends)
