Eclipse AVN 2454/5435/30D Firmware & Maps Upgrade DVD Disc

Just got my hands on the MDV-06D update disc for my AVN-5435 and wanted to post my impressions for those waiting for it.

The disc specifically states it's for these three models only. AVN-2454, AVN-5435 and AVN-30D. I know that some have wondered if this disc is the same one that comes with the new 6600 units but I don't think it is because there seems to be some differences in what I have read. This disk only applies to the models that I have listed.

I was previously using the version 1.2 disc and here are my impressions of the new disc:
  • It has a new welcome or splash screen that looks better.
  • Ability to customize the splash screen to any image you want. I have instructions on how to upload images to the AVN. Will only work with this new upgrade!
  • It has the new street-maps update that allows you to zoom into 75ft (but only in selected citys - Those are LA, Chicago, Detroit and NY).
  • It re-arranged the buttons on my "source" screen - moving the Sirius button up.
  • MP3 discs seem to load a tad faster and the text on the song buttons has changed. It uses upper and lower case letters and now separates the words rather than running them all together. (its easier to identify the songs now).
  • There are supposed to be more POI's but I can't confirm or deny at this point since I don't use them much at all.
  • The changes on the Source screen are definitely different. They are separated into two categories. There is a satellite dish icon to indicate AM, FM and SIRIUS selections on the top half and CD and DVD icons on the lower half to indicate the CD, DVD, MP3 and VTR selections.
  • No longer need to use the speed-pulse/VSS wire

What's hot is finally having normal MP3 playback, without skipping when I goto the next track or what-not.

Changing the Opening Screen Image for the AVN5500 & AVN6600

- Same for the AVN2454, AVN5435 and AVN30D

The image displayed on the opening screen (which is displayed when the power is turned on) can be changed to a Jpeg image stored on a CD-R/RW.

Step 1> "When storing the image data in a CD-R/RW disc make a text file named "CSM.txt" (any content /text is OK) and store it together with the image data.
To create this necessary file, open Microsoft Notepad In Accessories. The text data within the file does not matter. Simply save the file as "CSM.txt" and Include the file on the same disc with the image or images you wish to use for the Opening Screen.
Tip: If you need to modify the image to fit the AVN screen, you can use Microsoft Paint in Accessories or any other image adjustment software.
Format for the disc and image data:
- File size: smaller than 100KB
- File name: ISO9660 standard (keep file name less than 18 characters)
- File extension: .jpg
- Max image size: 416(W) x 240(H) pixels
Step 2> Burn the image or images you want to the CD-R/RW along with the CSM.txt file. Keep the files on the root of the CD – do not store them in folders.

Changing the Welcome screen
Eject your DVD disc from the AVN unit and insert your newly created CD-R/RW disc. It will only take a few seconds to read the image data. DO NOT turn off the ignition key or power down your AVN unit during this time.
A screen will come up saying “Opening Image Change” – touch that button. The names of the images you burned to the disc should now be visible in a list. Simply touch the name of the image you want to use as your Welcome screen. The screen will change to confirm your selection. Confirm your change by pressing “OK”.
Be sure to remove your image disc before turning your AVN unit off.

I really hope you're just incapable of using google to find something to buy.

If you're not searching for something to buy, review the terms and conditions of use of this board regarding the discussion of pirated software.
