MMA on CBS (Elite XC) Extreme Combat
Any UFC fans watching this? Anyone notice anything almost "out of place" during the last 2 fights?
What are your impressions of this? And is this the 1st time this has been on? Let's discuss... Anyone who is an avid UFC fan out there? ... Did anyone else also notice any "talking" between the fighters in the last 2 fights? It almost seemed to me that they were told to stretch out the fights or something since the 2 earlier "short bouts" and there was almost too much "show" in it... I dunno??

Yeah, there were some issues for me...
1st: I guess it wasn't live if you're watching it now and I watched it at what was 9 PM Eastern (6PM or 7PM your time, whatever the time zone is for AZ) 2nd: I thought the refs stopped the fights way too early. It was like after maybe 2 clean shots that rocked the guy, they stepped in. In UFC, they at least let you go until it's clear that you can't defend yourself 3rd: If the last fight was in the UFC, Kimbo would've lost. He took like 20 consecutive elbows to the head without defending himself Last: I don't think it was fake but at some points during the Kimbo fight, he just sat there on the bottom of a ground and pound and just randomly (after like a min) came up with strength to throw the person off him. Overall, im glad it was free and I'm Gina Carano (Crush from American Gladiators) was hot. And that guy that fought kimbo, his ear was disgusting. It was like flopping around after he hit it lol

It was during the last 2 fights, I need to watch them again sometime. I thought I saw that when they were in clinches that there was some jabber jawing going on... and then there would be a lull in the action for a bit and some "soft punches" and then I would see some more jabber jawing and then they would go full out for a bit... almost like they were saying to each "hey, lets catch our breaths for a second and then beat the sh!t outta each other for a bit"
I don't think the fights were fixed at all, I just think that there was a bit of cooperative resting goin on... These fights were much different than the fights I am used to seeing in the UFC. They will in my opinion try to overcommercialize this and they need to be careful not go overboard into the "cheesy" catagory. CBS needs to keep the integrity of the sport in tact otherwise they will not do it justice at all. If you are new to the sport check into the UFC and Joise Gracie, Ken Shamrock, Chuck Lidell, Tito Ortiz and the many others who made the sport.

the entrances the fighters made was funny as s***. it looked more like the wwe than an mma event. all show. those fighters would not last in the ufc, pride, or k1. i thought i was the only one who thought the refs stepped in too early especially with the kimbo fight. what made me laugh was them showing the vids of kimbo's illegal fights as if it is a great way to start your career in mma. it looked like they were promoting under ground fights. nbc has to watch themselves with this.

i have no problems with the ref not stopping the kimbo thompson fight in the 2nd round, since kimbo was not taking a lot of damage. however, the ref should have been consistent and not stopped the fight in the 3rd round.
no problem with the carano young fight stoppage--young's left eye was pretty damaged and she had no fighting spirit. the lawler smith stoppage was premature.

My observations:
1. There was WAY too much fluff and commercial breaks. I DVR’ed the program and watched all the important stuff in 90 minutes. They could have used the extra time to show us some of the SEVEN fights that were not broadcast. 2. Ranallo has some really bad hair plugs up front. 3. Lawler/Smith should have been the main event since it was a title match and a way better fight. 4. Brett Rogers (The Grim) should have fought Kimbo instead of that worthless, no talent, Thompson. Rogers already defeated Thompson so give the guy his chance. 5. Lawler/Smith should NOT have been stopped. It was a legit finger in the eye but Smith could have continued. 6. Phil Baroni has and will continue to be OVERRATED. 7. The Kimbo/Thompson fight was sloppy, amateurish and not worthy of main event status. If there were a lot of people tuned in that don’t normally watch MMA, they must think MMA is just a bunch of bloody muscle head brawls. There were no slick submissions aired.

^^ Good observations...
Lawler / Smith was really shaping up to be an excellent fight. It was wierd how it was 95% on their feet and not much submission work goin on... They were tee'ing off on each other tho. I think Smith could-a came back and had a legit shot at taking him.

8. Gina Carano is the real deal. She just needs to concentrate on her MMA career and she'll rise to the top.
