WEC 06/01/08 On Versus

Anybody catch the fights last night?

Cerrone/Castillo - Quick arm bar tap out, Cerrone wins.

Alexander/McCullough - Yawn.....Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Grigsby/Munoz - A couple of up-and-comers. Grigsby is tall and rangy a la Spider Silva; Munoz is a short, stocky wrestler. Grigsby fails to use his jab and eventually succumbs to Munoz' take down attempts. Munoz keeps standing and raining down big rights while Grigsby is on his back. Finally one connects, followed by a flurry of right hands, knocking Grigsby out cold.

Maeda/Torres - Torres is a submission expert with Muay Thai skills, while Maeda has heavy hands and great submission defense. The first round starts slow but when the fighters finally find their range, effective strikes are exchanged.

Round two is destined to be an instant classic. A complete war, with lots of strikes exchanged, submissions attempted and escaped by both fighters.

Torres’ jab finds a home in Maeda’s right eye in round three. The eye swells throughout the round and when the bell sounds Maeda’s eye is swollen shut. The fight is stopped before the fourth round begins. What a fantastic fight!

Pulver/Faber – This one was hyped huge here in Cali since Faber is Sacto’s golden boy. Faber is known for his submission game, but tonight we see an entirely different fighter. Through the entire fight Faber’s right hand was too quick for Pulver. It found its mark 80% of the time and it seemed Pulver could not get off. His legendary left hook was no where to be found. After five rounds of punishing Pulver, Faber wins a unanimous decision. Faber has to be, pound for pound, one of the best fighters in the world.

Overall, this event was FAR superior to that mess that CBS showed on Saturday.

Last night was great compared to Saturday night. only good thing about Satuday was that guys ear exploding, but I still think Kimbo Slice is a joke and I hope he fights a rear MMA fighter and gets rocked

+1. If Thompson had any submission training, he could have arm barred or rear naked choked Kimbo a dozen times.

I just watched the Kimbo fight on youtube.... What a joke that was!

The WEC had some good fights, but the Faber/Pulver fight...That was a good fight Faber's hands were working overtime in that fight and so was Pulvers chin. I was not expecting that fight to go the full 5 rounds, It was a great fight but I am kinda let down I guess I wanted that decisive win KO submission.

I say rematch in the future

Wow Pulver ate some serious punches, there were a few timed I thought he was done. The Maeda/Torres was serious, too bad a shut eye determined the out come.

that kid proved he was the real deal a long time ago...I was impressed with the Pulver fight because I like both fighters, But I'm also impressed anytime Faber fights their is always something new.

I would have to say his most impressive victory was over Jeff Curran when he got the guillotine choke and submitted Curran, Curran is a BJJ black belt and multiple champion in various other fight venues...Faber just made him look like it was his first time in the ring.
