Navigation upgrade on 07 Sedan

Hey, my wife just got an 07 Sedan w/o Navi and we wanted to know if anyone has added factory Navi components to the regular system. Also, is this a 1.5 din?

Thanks

It's probably possible but no has done it that I am aware of. Way too cumbersome and expensive. You would have to switch out the LCD, change the buttons below the LCD screen and on the steering wheel, add the entire AV control unit, etc. You are better off getting a portable GPS.

there was a thread a while ago about some using a garmin that had video and sound outpus via composite cables. They stored the unit in the armrest along with the cables, ran the antenna somewhere to get a signal, and used a small remote to control the unit. I thought is was pretty slick for like 300-400 bucks probably.

did a search for "07 sedan garmin" and found it. Took 2 seconds.

No factory navigation? - Here's a Navi alternative

I actually wish I did that than order the stock navi. I got the stock navi for the CF reader but didn't know you couldn't transfer mp3's to the HD at that point. I would have gone with the ipod dock for non-navi equipped G's and then done the garmin--I think that would have been much better. Of course, for the 08's, it is worth it to get navi for the backup camera...

yeah i'm still contemplating whether or not i want to do the navi alternative with the GVN 52 or 53.....I just really don't need navi in atlanta since i know most of the roads...but whenever i find myself going on business trips around the southeast, it sucks having to carry a mapquest printout on the trip

this mod will probably be after the front lip, headlights, and exhaust...priorities

if you really don't need it, why not get a garmin/tomtom/magellen? That way you only bring it with you when you need it, plus if u fly anywhere, you can take it with you

i have a nuvi 660 and yeah, i've found it useful to be able to move it to different cars when needed. But you can get a decent GPS for around 100 bucks these days, so they are pretty much no brainer at this point.

The only thing that would make me upgrade my garmin is to have google or maps.live.com maps and yellowpage information on a touch screen device. The iphone is almost there, but it would need a better nav interface and an actual GPS receiver in it for me to get excited.

I posted a similar question a couple of weeks ago and this is the response I received: Install Factory Nav in 07
Parts will run you around $2300.00US for Display unit (touch), DVD unit and Switch Assembly plus you may also need to upgrade steering wheel controls. Prices from Riverside Infiniti parts website.
Many who have done the Garmin GVN 52 or 53 seem to be very satisfied with it, however, a video bypass (which cannot be discussed or described on this forum) would be required for it to work.
To me, portable make the most $en$e. Maybe that is why BMW offers a detachable GPS as an option.
My 2 cents.
Keep us posted regarding the details if you switch to a factory unit and good luck!

Wouldn't you tend to agree though, that most people rarely need GPS.
I would never dispute the cool factor of in-dash factory or DDIN GPS units. I am a tech junkie like a lot of us on here.
I agree that portables can be ugly and obtrusive when mounted up on the dash or window which is why when I use mine (also rarely) I just set it in my cup holder and it still works great.
Cheers

I completely agree that most people do not need GPS, and I'm included in that group of people hehe...especially for those who never leave their town and commute less than 30 miles a day...

I would seriously like to know how often do you guys REALLY need to use Navi? I bought a portable GPS and bought a mount that clips onto the vents, perfect. Only time i used it was to go to the states and to montreal (I live in Toronto).

Is it really worth the extra $$$, maybe for a cab driver but you pretty much know where you're going 99% of the time.

That's very true that the vast majority don't need/use their Navi 99% of the time (and I am included in that majority myself). Having said that, it does come in VERY handy. Do I use mine on a daily basis? Heck no, I think I know where my office is now. But I have used it quite a bit for times during a road trips into an unfamiliar city, locating a certain street address even in my own community, etc. I personally didn't get the Navi package just for the Navi alone, but I really love having it and find that it comes in VERY handy at times.
