Battery

So dummy that I am, I ignored the beep and left my lights on, on my 08 G35xS for 2 and a half hours. When I came out of the restaurant the battery was dead. I called AAA and they gave me a charge and the car has been fine ever since.
The question is did I damage the battery by letting it discharge fully?

thanks

There should be a tab on the battery that you can open up to check the water level in these little wells. If they are low, just fill them up a bit with distilled water. Once the wells dry up, your battery is permanently out of juice. As long as you don't let them dry up, your battery should be fine.

WOW. Color me disappointed. I have never done this (thankfully), but always assumed that (as in my fathers old 97 Grand Caravan), that my 2007 Infiniti (10 years newer, and roughly double the price) would have a battery lock out when the level got low. I cant believe that cars still allow this to happen with all the computer systems in them. BUT I was of the same reaction when realizing that the windows/sunroof had no auto close via key fob feature.

All in all, i love my G, but this weekend made the difficult decision to return it at lease end (next September). I believe I will be converting to a German machine. Now onto the vital task at hand. Convincing the wife that a new M3 sedan is just a small step up from our G.........Let the games begin.

I haven't looked, but its probably a sealed battery. That being said, you should be fine for years to come anyway.

Thanks guys... I suspect that there is no permanent damage to it..
I'll mention it to the service dept on my next trip to see them

Our batteries or NOT maintainance free, thus they will not last as long without maintaining proper water levels...

because our bats require maint, they will last longer if we take care of them, to the OP, you can run a battery dead, as long as water is still in it, BUT if u run it dead and then let it get cold enough to freeze, that will kill it.

when the bat has a charge, the water is not water, it acid and won't freeze, but when there is no charge, its back to water again and will freeze and crack the led plates in the bat and kill it.

unscrew the knobs on the top of the bat and fill them with distilled water, check the levels every 6 months or so, should be full

why don't you just leave your lights in AUTO, that way it'll turn off after 30 seconds from leaving the car....

i use auto 99.9% of the time. when it raining during the day i flip them on if the sensor has done it yet.

might have been a smart move for infiniti to automatically turn on the head lights when the wipers have been on for more then 5 seconds, or set at a certain speed.
