"Unbolting" exhaust

I saw on a YouTube video that the guy who made the video "unbolted" his exhaust on his 08 G and said it only takes 15 minutes to do. I was wondering if anyone else on the forums has done the "unbolt". I guess its basically a straight pipe effect.

Yes, I've seen it done on my car, but the car was on a lift.

EDIT: oops, my bad ... I thought you guys were talking about how long it takes to pull the exhaust out.

That was my video I'd imagine... Just look under the car, you'll see the clamp that connects the mufflers to the rest of the exhaust... just unbolt it.

Shouldn't, unless you unbolt it before either o2 sensor on either side.

I unbolted mine tonight and I was surprised at the sound. It was louder but mellow, not raspy at all. Sounded quite good IMO. No check engine lights to report.

Any performance increase, what about the gas pedal "feel" with less back pressure?

It seemed to breath a little easier for sure...especially past 4000 rpm's. Dyno would be only way to tell for sure. Idle was a little lower and loped a little more than with the exhausts on.

Louder exhaust makes your car sound faster.

Unbolting may be good for 5-10hp. Not much different from a catback exhaust.

Anyone have a link to the video?

And do we remove the bolt completely or what?

I wouldn't mind doing this until I decide on what exhaust to order, just don't want to do anything wrong and mess up my OEM exhaust.

They're talking about removing only the mufflers. Not sure why someone would drive around like that as it just wouldn't look right. Also, I'd imagine you would be getting soot all under the rear of your car.

The exhaust has a hanger at the rear that needs 2 bolts removed, 1 bolt on a hanger that can be accessed with an extension between the tire and the mudflap, and the last bolt is a clamp that holds the 2 flanges together underneath the spare tire well under the car. I took everything off without jacking up my car....and it is lowered. And unless you are burning oil, there would be no soot output onto the bottom of your car.

Just FYI... I dyno'd my car w/ the OEM mufflers attached, then w/o any mufflers. There was no gain at all.
