Hi Mark,

There are so much to say, but most of the things I want to advice you are on this site:

www.tripadvisor.com

Put "Bali" on the main page and it'll give you a forum where people have been there and their experiences. My family and I are spending Christmas 2008 in Indonesia with a side trip to Bali and Singapore and/or Malaysia.

Enjoy!

I can hardly wait Shane. My sister and her fiance are postponing their honeymoon (they're getting married in June '08) and they're extending their stay in Bali for 3 weeks then fly to Singapore to see our family there - staying there for 2 weeks. It'll be nice, a different way to celebrate Christmas.

Mark,

I've been to Bali twice, Banda Aceh, Phuket. Here are just a few advice:

- Keep your wallet close and I mean, tape it to your body close to you.
- Don't fall for any offers in & outside of hotels that promises you "FREE" whatever. Nothing's for free.
- Of course, the water, bottled only and make sure they open it in front of you or you open it yourself.
- Food is very inexpensive, but if you are the adventure type, don't eat at any establishments that looks seedy. You be the judge. Their medical facilities there aren't that good.
- Beware of walking at night. Period
- You're a westerner. Stay where you see at least a few Westerners. It's a predominantly muslim country. I have muslims friends (Wersteners) and they're even cautious.

Look up at more info on that website. There are many other things that I haven't mentioned. There's just too much typing. Look up at the visa fees when you leave the country.

Good luck and have fun.

Bali looks like the bomb.

But wasn't there a bombing inside a disco frequented by tourists last year? ie...be careful

True, there was a bombing at one club there, I believe back in 2003 or 2004... just be aware of your surroundings. I avoid crowds completely together. JMHO.
