London

I will be going to London sometime in October/November for a wedding probably for 4-7 days and was wondering what the best / most economical place to stay would be. I was thinking of even perhaps renting a house/condo for the week because I will be going w/ a few other family members and it would probably be less expensive to rent a place with several bedrooms rather than a hotel. Where should I be looking?

Also, what are good places to visit while I'm there?

I posted this on another thread so I just copied and pasted it here:

London is a fantastic place to visit, there is so much to see.
We have gone to England about 5 times in the last 7 years. Our daughter lived in Chelsea for 5 years and just bought a house a couple of years ago in Cambridge, England.

For places to see I would reccomend:

Check out the Tate Modern Art Gallery located along the Thames River overlooking the Millenium Bridge.

Also located along the banks of the Thames is Shakespeare's Globe Theater they offer some pretty interesting tours there.

Of course you have to check out Buckingham Palace and the Changing of the Guards.

There are many Museums located throughout London that are worthwhile visiting.

A must do is a trip to Covent Gardens. There are many shops there and the big draw is the talented Buskers that perform outside daily. We loved going there.

Trafalgar Square is another notable place to go and the National Art Gallery is by Trafalger Square which is fantastic with so many famous paintings and art there. Also check out the famous Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.

If you want to do the tourist thing you could go for a ride on the Eye Of London, which is a monstrous ferris wheel that gives a fantistic view of London.

There are many Live Theaters and Shows that are on throughout London. You can usually get good prices on tickets to all the different shows, movies and theaters at the ticket booths located at Leicester Square.

Of course you HAVE to check out as many Pubs as you can and try some of their brews and mix with the locals there.

These are just a few of the things I remember well, there are many more. We will be going there next year again.

the Woolsey and Rules and J. Sheekey are great restaurants.. although they are pricey, they have a great atmosphere and good food. Rules is a great game restaurant that I have been to twice in the past year. I would look them up and try to go to one =]

find someone who has timeshares or something like that.

They have 3 bedroom and 2 bedroom resorts that are not very expensive.

+1 on all of these. BTW its the London Eye not Eye of London, and i'm not really sure I'd call it a ferris wheel. Its more like giant 'bubbles' you stand in that moves around like a ferris wheel.

Def. take time to just walk along the River Thames in downtown London. You can take one of the tours, but usually they're pretty short and you won't get a lot of good pics so just go by foot.

Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square are two places you def. need to spend a lot of time in, lots of pubs and places to go. BTW- there is some Indian restaurant in Leicester Square...don't go! Insanely expensive for food that is mediocre at best. The only thing I remember is its on some side road, near this kind of indoor amusement park/arcade thing (also don't remember the name of it, but it is pretty famous if u ask someone). Anyway right next to it tho is an awesome pub. I'll try to get the name from my cousin for you.

If you want a good, albeit insanely expensive meal go to OXO tower.

Thats all I can think of for now.

What everyone recommended are good choices, but the best thing to do is just walk. Whatever catches your eye go for it. Lots of pretty cool things to see.

As for staying somewhere it seems Kensington is the best place to look for a deal. Its the touristy area of London. Check out orbitz and sites like that for deals as well.
