Mexico Honeymoon - where to go?
My fiance and I are getting married at the end of May this year and want to go on a honeymoon the first week of June. In the effort of saving money (we are planning a trip to Japan in April of 2009), we are thinking of going to Mexico.
So I was just curious where is a good place to go. I've been to Cabo twice, so I don't necessarily want to go back a third time. I was thinking Cozumel, Cancun, or Playa del Carmen. Are there other places we should be considering (maybe Mazatlan, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, etc)? Is the beginning of June going to be big on hs senior trips (so we should avoid Cancun)? Also, are all-inclusives a good way to go? Is there much in the way of choices for food, or are you kind of restricted to a couple restaurants? Any help would be much appreciated....thanks! ![]() |

Hey Nicole!
Oh girl, love the Yucatan Peninsula. I have one recommendation for you and this is the only place I will stay and it's in my top 5 list of resorts. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...Peninsula.html Whenever I go there, I feel like a queen. The staff are nice, (even though they say not to tip them I do anyway). The place is clean. The spa is in my top 3, the food, I would have carpal tunnel if I list of all the good things about this place. Also, go see the Mayan ruins. So educational. Another great place to go is Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...fic_Coast.html I can't say enough good things about this resort either. This place would definitely be less crowded. I don't know about you, but when I'm on vacation, I go there to relax... and party quietly. LOL These places will not tolerate spring breakers. I saw spring breakers get kicked out of both places, BTW and they gladly gave their $$$ back. Yes, all-inclusive's the way to go, IMHO. I'm too lazy to remember to bring my wallet... besides, it's a vacation. I go there to forget my daily life. LOL Congratulations again Nicole! I'm so excited and happy for you! .

Id say go to Cozumel Mexico. I have been there 4 times, and its always been great. Great service, good food, and lots to do (and no spring breakers!)
We have always stayed at a hotel right on the water front called the Vista Del Mar. Nice rooms and good service! http://www.hotelvistadelmar.com/html/eng/ Give it a thought ![]()

I got married 5 minutes outside of Playa Del Carmen. It's a fantastic area with lots of nice resorts to stay at. PDC is a great area to honeymoon as because it's close to a lot things. If you stay in or around PDC, you can take a short ferry ride over to Cozumel. Also, attractions such as Tulum, Chichen Itza, Xel-Ha, Xcaret, and the cenotes are all close by. I found PDC to have lots of great places to shop and eat as well. I would personally stay somewhere on the Mayan Riviera before I went to Cancun.
This is a great website that I've used often and has tons of info. www.locogringo.com

PDC sounds like it could be the way to go....and then we could take a day trip to Cozumel.
I'm still not sold on the all-inclusive resorts though. It would certainly be convenient to not have to carry money or anything with us....but I like to venture out and find good food, not necessarily being restricted to eating at one of a few places at the resort. But we're just now starting to research this (we put off deciding for way too long!), so I'm going to look into all the places that people have mentioned....I want to have a combination of lazy beach time, adventure time, and shopping time. I'm excited....now to get all the silly wedding planning out of the way! |

Stay at The El Dorado Royal Casitas. What is great about this place is its all inclusive but they have menus to order from. There are no buffets at all except the one for breakfast. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...Peninsula.html |

Look into Manzanillo Mexico. it's on the Pacific side and since it's not as trendy as the other tourist traps you can get great deals...My sister, who lives in Mexico swears by it and they often travel there.
I foyu want I can get a quote from a Mexican travel agent(friends since elementary) and I'm no spring chicken but she gets very good rates since it all originates in Mexico(the reservations) |

Yeah, a list of good places to eat at would be great! I think it's decided that we're going either with PDC or Cozumel, and will go to the opposite one for at least a day trip. I hear that this side of the country is less of what we consider the traditional Mexican food and has more of a seafood flair....is that true? I'm definitely looking forward to that! I love Mexican food, and to mix it with seafood (fish tacos....mmmmm), I'm not sure it gets much better! Now to look for cool places to take day hikes or have other little adventures.... |

We stayed at Le Blanc ( 2/3 of the way up the hotel zone in Cancun) about 18 months ago. It's of the same chain as all the Palace resorts. It's an adults only, all-inclusive place where Pres. Bush stayed when he visited the Mexican President. It's not cheap but they told us there is some travel agency out of Miami that does direct booking and will cut out the middle man markup. We never left the grounds so you forget you are in the area where people are getting wild. If you go, bring dress pants and shoes if you expect to eat at the gourmet restaurants. It's worth it.
