How Often Do You Travel?

As the title states, how often do you guys/gals travel (for personal vacation that is). My wife and I try and stick with taking two major vacations per year. We usually go somewhere for vacation in the summer in the car as well, but I don't count that as a major vacation. Although we typically get away twice a year, it still doesn't feel anywhere enough.

We ususally take 3 big vacations of somewhere between one and two weeks a year. Then we take about 10-12 "extended weekend" vacations. Usually those are to our local lake for a thursday thru monday trip. We are blessed to be able to take off whenever we want and the boat and rv are always ready.

I am long overdue for traveling and vacations.

Have not done anything major for over 5 years.

I do small sh!t like camping and boating and going down to a coast or up to the mountains and hot springs but nothing major.

Similar here with the weekends, we're not home much in the summer, we're either in the mountains or beside a lake. We rarely take a 'big' trip but that is about to change. Within the next year we're definitely doing San Diego this fall, Hawaii or mayb Mexico in the early spring and hopefully Europe (England/Ireland/Scotland) in the not-too-distant future.

It varies. Sometimes it's twice per year and sometimes it's been 3-4 years in between. Probably averages 1 every 1-2 years. That's plenty for us now. For years when I was marathoning I would do two small trips per year somewhere else in Canada or US and a lot of other overnighters in the Maritimes.

In the past couple of years I have changed from virtually no vacations to taking 1 big and expensive () trip every year. Now that my vacation time has doubled, I will probably still take the big trip, but now mix in a couple of 3-4 day getaways.

I try to take two extended vacations (at least 6 nights) per year with a couple of long weekend trips mixed in, but so far the only thing on the books for this year is 8 nights at a lake house.

Really, I am waiting on my passport. I am growing bored with U.S. destinations and need to broaden my horizons.

If I go on one vacation three years or so I'm happy...kind of sad, but thats what I've gotten use to. When I was a kid, my parents never (not once) went on a real vacation. At most we'd drive to go see our friends in Nebraska for Thanksgiving or for xmas or whatever.

Hopefully, when I'm starting to make more $, I'll actually enjoy my time off and go on vacation.

^^ C'mon Sam, you can't geek out ALL the time! Go out & live a little. We took annual family vacations starting about the time I started school. Many happy summers spent at the lake boating, waterskiing, and chasing girls. We still do, but are expanding out horizons as the kids get to an age where they can appreciate going to see new and interesting things.

Good luck with the $$. I'm sure you'll be vacationing as much as you want in time.

I traveled an enormous amount as a child especially during the 5 years we lived in Europe. Now I'm happy with a major trip every few years along with some shorter weekenders closer to home.

I do alot of business traveling but haven't had a vacation since 2003. I've got New York and L.A. on my schedule next. I'm having mixed feeling about those trips.
