Alaska
I am looking into the possibility of taking a solo trip to Alaska, maybe doing one of the planned group trips. I want to go for the scenery and photography, though I would like to do a few activities like kayaking and short hikes. I found some itineraries ranging from $3-5k for a single person and while expensive, they're already planned and include a few flights within Alaska, car travel, some meals, etc., while covering a nice variety of what the state has to offer.
Has anyone done such a trip, or is the most common means of seeing Alaska a cruise?

I've been to Anchorage, but only on business, didn't get a chance to look around. My wife's folks have been on 1-2 cruises up there and took a helicopter trip up to a glacier, which they really enjoyed. Oh, be sure to have a pint or two or Alaska Amber Ale. Best American beer I've tasted.
