Costa Rica?

My wife and I currently have plans on going to Greece this fall. But we've recently been thinking about Costa Rica as well. Has anyone been to Costa Rica here and could provide any feedback?

i went to costa rica last year... amazing... great beaches and awesome rain forest, and best of all bang for your buck. me and my gilfriend were looking into greece/italy this year, and costa rica was 1/3rd the price, so its definately affordale as even a side trip if you do greece as well.

oh yea pm me if you want info on ie this awesome rinforest resort, things to do etc. if you go definitely got to do white water rafting, zip lining on the rain forest treetops, and mountain biking tours... and definitely bring a lot of bug spray.

OH Shane, I can only say good things about that country and the only regret I have is I didn't have enough time to explore.

It's beautiful, still a little undeveloped, but that's the kind of place that I like to visit. According to some "expats", Costa Rica has had a lot of development in the last 10 years which makes me even wish I was there before all of its development.

When my best friend and I went, we went to the Papagayo Coast of Guanacaste, which is on the north, Pacific Ocean side. We stayed at the Fiesta Premier which was bought by Hilton and was going thru a renovation at the time when we were there.
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...uanacaste.html
It's an all-inclusive resort... the drinks were a little weak, but just ask the bartenders to add a little more liquor and you're set... Stay in the 200s and nowhere else.

We went thru the zip lines, (watch out for the howling monkeys especially when they start throwing their feces @ you! ), took a day trip to Nicaragua, what a beautiful country considering their recent history and it's clean and saw the active volcano there. We also went to Tamarind Bay and surfed... the waves there are awesome for surfing. I'm not as good as I used to be because of the lack of practice, but these waves were just perfect for me and there weren't any rocks that I'd encountered.

We also went diving which is great, but I was expecting more like when I went to Belize. The Pacific is not as nice to dive in as the Carribean side, that's for sure.

Just bring a lot of bug spray because it is still undevelope. I wish Costa Rica would stay the way it is now, but because of tourism, the Western people like us, they will develop the country just for us to visit, just like the way Cabo San Lucas is now... too developed and Hollywoodish.

Take a visit now Shane before it gets too touristy. I saw some Western litter already such as an Albertson(a grocery store here in the USA) bag thrown in the middle of the canopy jungle while we were in the zip lines. Nobody else brought it there except for outsiders. I had to climb down in the middle of the canopy floor to pick it up... I just wouldn't be able to conciously go on knowing someone from the States left their mark in that beautiful place.

It's also a good family vacation destination if you want to take Ava.

Check out tripadvisor.com and look @ the people's honest opinions.

Good luck Shane. I do hope you guys decide to visit soon before it gets too developed.

Costa rica is awesome! I was there for a week and enjoyed it a lot! You go down there with a thousand dollars and live like royalty for a week. If you go be sure to take one of the trips to the rain forest and go on the canopy tour! It is absolutely breath taking! Absolutely insane! The view is just out of this world. The wildlife that you see is insane - things you would never thing of seeing you are literally 20 feet from. The coast is amazing as well! I was going to go back this summer, but i have summer classes.

Thanks for all of the comments so far guys and gals. I've heard lots of great things about Costa Rica the last couple of years so we are definitely considering it for this fall. I still want to go to Greece too though. It sucks to not have nearly enough time to see all of the places you want to see.

I've been to Tortuguero, Costa Rica. Very topical place but do plan around the rainy season otherwise it can put a damper on your plans. They're known for bananas so there was forests of bananas. I've never seen so many bananas in my life. Given the chance however and if money wasn't an issue, I'd pick to visit Greece before I visit Costa Rica.
