Honeymoon suggestions....

I'm getting married Sept 20th (this year) and wanted to get some suggestion for honeymoon destinations. Wife-to-be has NEVER been on a real vacation before so this will be her first!!

Only a few criteria....

1) MUST be out of the country (she wants to use her passport)
2) Beach front with clear water (we are from mid-west)
3) 5k or less enclusive for the both of us

Lets see what you guys can come up with and THANKS in advance for all suggestions.

I did 2 weeks in the Mayan Riviera on the east coast of Mexico for my honeymoon. The first week was at an all-inclusive in Cancun, the second week at an all-inclusive just south of Cancun in Playa Del Carmen.

The highlight of the trip was staying at the Riu Palace in Playa Del Carmen. It's a stellar 5+ star resort!

I got married right next door to the Palace at the Riu Playacar.

We went to Anguilla. Stayed at the Cuisinart Resort. It's a 14x7 mile island 4 miles by boat from St. Martin. Island people were so friendly and we rented a car and went to visit a couple of the other beaches. Car rental is a must as it costs the same per day as 1 round trip cab ride. Too bad it's out of your price range. I think it was around 6k for airfare and hotel in July, which is the low season. Not all inclusive as we wanted something farther removed from the masses and were only 1 of about 4 or 5 couples on the beach. Food was expensive to me @ about $100 a meal for dinner, but you are on an island! We even got to see a local sailboat race.

We cannot wait to go back someday!

I'm going to say look into Cozumel. You can take day trips over to Playa del Carmen, it's very reasonable to stay and the beaches are beautiful. You can rent scooters and go around the island bar hopping, Snorkeling is awesome, go into town to shop, eat, dance, or hang out at your resort and relax. I don't know the hotel/resort names over there, we have a timeshare at Corral Princess and thats the only place we have ever stayed. It's worth looking into at least.

I'm going to Playa del Carmen for my honeymoon in a little less than two weeks....based on all the pictures I've seen and everyone's recommendations, I think it will be great, but I'll let you know for sure when I come back. We're going to take two day trips to Cozumel (for diving trips), plus a day trip or two to the Mayan Ruins.

That sounds GREAT and exactly what I would like to do. "She" loves the water and I love history and architecture.
