was on the big island last december. very very laid back. not touristy except for downtown kona. cool sightseeing with the volcano and coffee farms. i hear maui's pretty nice too.

i'm sure all of the islands offer a bunch of activities and tons of places to see. but if you're looking at night life type of action then i'd say oahu.

What types of activities are you looking for? If you want any type of night life, then like dvs said, it has got to be Oahu. Hunting/fishing - Molokai. See some sights with a little night life - Maui. Lots of things to see, but no night life - Big Island. Lots of things to do - Kauai. Do nothing - Lanai. Get bombed - Kahoolawe.

If it's your first trip I'd say Oahu. Not as laid back as the rest of the islands but you can find places to get away from the Waikiki crowds. There's definitely great things on the other islands but they're better for 2nd or 3rd trips back.

Island paradise....!

I wouldn't spend more than 2 days on any one island it's all paradise. Oahu
has lots to see, get a rental car and map and do the island. I really love
the big island for Golf, black sand beaches and even the cattle ranches.
Maui is kinda of a tourist trap, much nicer 30 years ago on our first vacation.

Maui is still nice.

If you are a golfer, go to Maui.

If you want to avoid the more touristy area, don't stay in Wailea.

Don't forget the big island has a lot of volcanic ash in the sky right now.

I think that's either in Lahaina or Kaanapali if I am not mistaken. I heard it's nice, but it aint the Four Seasons or Grand Wailea. Personally, I would rent a beachfront condo than stay at a hotel though...that's just me.

Maui is excellent, pricey but worth it.
Be advised that they sell gas per gallon at cocaine rates...
LMAO

I went to Hawaii for 2 weeks on my honeymoon back in 99. Maui, Big Island, and Kauai. Both my wife and I liked Maui the best. We went back again in 04, this time just Maui. We're going back to Maui again this fall.
