Backpacking

So, Ive been invited to go on a 4 day backpacking trip down into the Grand Canyon..... Park and hike 10 miles to camp....No running water....no fires....you have to carry everything you need on your back including all of your food and take all your trash with you when you leave for that 10 miles hike back up the canyon....

This is where we are supposed to be going

If you Google Earth Suapi,AZ it has some cool pictures there of all the waterfalls and stuff

Anybody ever been or have some good advice/tips for me????

Thanks

No fires? That's sucks. For me that's a big part of camping.

How big of a pack do you bring?? How heavy?
How do you bring enough food with you for that many days?

Beef jerky! We've tried a bunch of the freeze dried food on our backpacking trips and haven't found anything we like....but beef jerky is perfect!

Oh yeah, and a water filter/purifier would be nice. We just boiled our water, but it was a pain, so I think we're going to invest in something else soon.

dry salomy and guda cheese is your best friend for lunches... we brought pasta and stuff but it gets heavy. most of our food was back packing food. with the heat its really hard to keep anything.

We had the full size packs around 50lbs or so. they have food at the village but its a 2 mile hike from the campgrounds. There is a natural well by the campgrounds that has fresh water. DO NOT use the river water to cook with

I would strongly suggest starting the hike from the parking lot at like 530 or 6am. that leaves you enough time for breaks and hanging out in the village and making it to the campgrounds with the sun up. Have a lot of water to start the hike there's nowhere to fill up till you get to the village.

be careful of the drunken Indians on the trail
