Cancun Bound 8/28/08 thru 9/1/08

Ok It's been since 1985 since I have been to Cancun. My wife is talking me there for my 45th B day on the 31st of Aug. We are staying at the Me by Melia Cancun http://www.mecancun.travel/. Oceanview FTW.
Has anyone been there recently and can give me the rundown on good small places to eat?..We are going to Isla Mujeres on our own day trip. I reserved the lobster cruise. Any other ideas? Thanks

I have. I actually went to a party at ME. It was the most fun I had in Cancun. However, Cancun is played out for anyone going there (I realize this isn't you) to 'party hard'.

Good places to eat? We at at the hotels and, for the best food, we ate on the street. Just walk around and you'll be able to find something nice. I think if you take a right down the road from leaving your hotel, you'll be able to find a rather newly developed area, including a mall, and there's a ton of options there.

Have fun.

First time I went to Cancun, some chick was on the stage at Senior Frogs with no Botton on (no pants or panties).

Second time I went was for my honeymoon. It was a blast. I suggest you head over to Isla Mujeres for snorkeling and the hammock park.

I went to Cancun for Spring Break! So yea i was just there last March. Best time of my life! Anyways, as far as eating places i can't remember specifically the names of the places but there was this taco factory place in the downtown strip area. You just got to walk behind club Daddy O and you should run into it. I just looked for the more authentic places just make sure to not drink the water(bottled water from the stores are fine). Margaritaville was fun to eat at. There is a Hooters there haha. You got to do the Mayan tour! Its an all day tour where a bus comes and picks u up from your hotel and then you go on a sweet culture experience of the Mayan people and then they drop u off back at your hotel in the end. They take you to Chichen Itza and all the mayan villages and then u get a great tour of the actual Mayane ruins. They also take u to a underground cave where u get to cliff dive in fresh soothing water. You get to eat some mayan food and u can try the mayan alcohol hehe. Have u seen Apocolypto by Mel Gibson, yea thats the mayan ruins. Remember that u can negotiate prices on everything except at restaurants. So in the flea market area u will find tour guide people and u can negotiate to get good deals. If there is anything else u would like to know, let me know.

Be sure to visit the Mayan ruins. It's an all day tour, but it's worth every bit of it. Wear hardly anything (it'll be hot and humid), wear tennis shoes or close-toe'd shoes (lots of walking and rocks), bring A LOT of water or frozen water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and some $$$. Last time I was there, they were going to close ruins to the public in regards to climbing it. Otherwise, take the long climb. It's nothing less than spectacular!

Also, try going to Ixcaret... it's a park and they have then underground caves to where you can swim or float right through it. It's beautiful.

Have a safe and wonderful trip and happy birthday!

Cancun, while very beautiful, is a little too commercialized and touristy for my liking. If you want to do some nice day trips outside of Cancun I would suggest visiting Tulum and Chichen Itza for cultural history and Xcaret/Xel-ha for swimming with dolphins, exploring cenotes, snorkeling, etc. Playa Del Carmen is a very nice little seaside resort town and you can catch the ferry over to Cozumel there as well. Have fun bro.

Yes! Tulum FTW!
The closest I've been to Cancun is when I used to go to the Cancun Jazz Festival.

^I heard they did at El Castillo.

The Canuck has probably given the best advice thus far.

You cannot climb the pyramids at Chichen Itza or Tulum but you can still climb the pyramids at the Coba Ruins.

We are returning this winter for our 4th year in the Mayan Riviera. We will be there for a month this winter. We love it there. We stay around the Akumal Bay/Tulum area. Cancuun is too busy for us.

Definately take a trip down to snorkel at Xel-Ha. We skipped the included Tulum ruins to allow for more time snorkeling.
Avoid all of the timeshare presentations.
