Problem with A/C....please take a look
My A/C is doing something unusual.....
On ANY mode its in it blows cold air when set to 60 degrees, however as soon as I turned it to 61 or above it starts blowing as if I have the heat on...... Scenario: Outside temp is 85 ( i live in FL), inside is set to 60....blows freezing cold. as soon as i bump it up one degree to 61 it blows hot (not just warm) Anyone else have this problem before? I had sub/amp install at circuit city but they didnt touch the radio, they hooked up a PAC adapter to the rear speakers. Only thing they did electrical was disconnect my battery for an hour or so? Is this related? Thanks in advance for your help. |

They had to go behind the radio and fool with something. This has been posted before when some did a dd conversion, I believe its a hose or wire harness ,dont quite remember, that got disconnected. I believe its on the driver side behind the radio or under the plastic covering of the steering wheel.

Bing helped me finally solve this mystery. On the panel that is under the steering column, when it is pulled down, you have to make sure that the little white plug on the right side of the panel is connected properly or else you only ALL HOT or ALL COLD. The plug is just located right above that big black rubber tube.
Mine wasn't fully connected and when Bing plugged it in, my A/C worked. I guess that plug connects to the temperature sensor or something.

Guys need some help here. I'm not getting any cold air and I checked the plug under the steering column and i'm still not getting anything. I checked the AC pipes and they're not getting cold at all (Low and High are cold). Any ideas? I'm thinking the compressor is shot, but i'm hoping its not. I got 62k on my car and i'm sure i'm out of warranty.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Paul |

if you are getting cold air out of the blower then more than likley it is not your compressor, easy way to confirm is go into the engine bay when you have it on 60 degrees when it is blowing cold check the compressor plate on front and see if it is turning, also put your hand on the low side line, it is the fatter(bigger) line it should be cold to the touch

Correction, Low and High pipes are both Warm. I checked and the plate is switching over and I have the interior setting at 60. I checked both Auto and Manual settings and I'm still not getting any cold air.
I thought it was the freon at first and when I hooked the gauge up on the Low to charge, the gauge read 50lbs OVER! I'm now thinking that whoever owned the car prior to me overcharged the system and blew the compressor. Thoughts? Thanks! Paul |

I'm not a tech but used to work in the wholesale refrigeration and A/c business. your gauge sounds wrong. 50lbs over. I don't believe the system could take that much charge. I agree your compressor sounds like it's not working or perhaps one or both of the controls. G/L |

This is mentioned in a lot of places and you posted a while back so I do not know if you have got this fixed yet, but here goes...
If you drop the panel under the steering column (should pull down easily) and look to the right above where your right knee would be, there is a hose fitting and a sensor. BOTH of these need to be connected!! If either one is disconnected, you will get ice cold air at 60 and the second you hit 61 it will blast hot air... Trust me, I have knocked that damn hose lose 20 times when taking the panels off for various reasons and I never realize it till I get a blast of heat at 61 degrees!! |
