does your G35 6MT burn up engine oil?

I have a 2007 G35 coupe MT6 brand new.

I already put 3000 miles and 2 days ago the engine was making a weird sound when I reached 3000-4000 RMS. This sound was more noticeable when the engine was cold.

I took it to the dealership where I bought it. They checked it and they found out that it was 2 quarts low on oil.
I never got a warning light telling me that it was low in oil.

I never pushed the car hard.
I always shifted gears at 4000 RPM and the fastest I have gone is 80 miles per hour.

They just did an oil change and told me to come back after 1000 miles more so that they can check the engine and the damage if any.

They told me that G35 MT6 burns up oil and this process is normal
(with this car)

I got my car back and it feels fine. There arent any weird noises but Im still afraid that my engine could be damaged.

I have the 70,000 mile warranty and if the engine gets damaged they said that it will be replaced.

Has this ever happen to your car?

I fought with the guys at the dealer telling them that it was their fault for selling me a car with low engine oil. I told them that this was their error.
I dont think that a new car with 3000 miles will burn up 2 quarts of oil

I really would appreciate any input you can give me.

Thanks in advance,
Daniel

No, this is not normal IMO. Did anyone check the oil level when you initially purchased the car? For some reason I don't see how a new car could burn 2 qts of oil in only 3K. I would think that it might have been low from the factory. You should know something pretty soon since you know it is full now.

It's not normal. The fact they're doing an oil consumption tells you there is a potential problem. Cars aren't delivered with low oil. Do a search here on oil consumption and you'll find a lot of information. Some of the 6mt (rev up) engines from '05- '07 have a known oil consumption issue. If the oil test confirms this you will receive a new engine from Infiniti. IIRC, if it uses more than 1 quart per 1000 miles you will receive a replacement. If it doesn't warrant one now it likely will in time well before your warranty is over, based on what you're reporting now.

Mine's an '04 ^MT Sedan, have over 52,000 miles now. I usually go to my local Jiffy Lube and use their standard Chevron 5Wt/30Wt with no additives, changing oil and filter every 5,000 miles, +/- 1,000 miles.

I drive it pretty hard, and it has never been even a little bit low when it's time for an oil change (although force of habit has me checking it every week anyway).

My $0.02

DB

Thats because the oil consumption issue only applies for the '05-07 6mt revup engines.

personally i have never had an issue with my 6mt, and i drive it HARD, carelessly hard sometimes unfortunately (hard down shifts and such). Never had an oil consumption issue although i know that issue is uncommon amongst the g35 in general. Im gonna start monitoring mine this next oil change with the dealer.

Unfortunately it seems like it happens enough to be normal for rev ups to burn oil. But to answer what you really want to know, it is absolutely not supposed to be happening.

They just did a TSB for the 350Z for a known OC issue. search my350z for such TSB. We have the same engine. I got my engine replaced with a new hand built one from japan and am about half way thru breaking it in @ 600 miles. there are many threads on the subject. just be firm. if you are consuming oil, go thru the BBB to get to Nissan North America. mine's an '05 G35c 6mt

No offense but if you bought it and beat on it from day one your probally going to have issue the nature of the beast. They don't break in the motors at the factory. So if your out there as soon as you by it beating on it it will probally have issue thats the norm with any engine. Thats why they call it brake in and not rape in. But if this wasn't the case if you spend alot of time in the upper rpm's this is normal. The more you rev and abuse a motor regardless of the redline or not it will use oil. All motors use oil.

Just a heads up.

I "beat" mine from the day I got it. I drove 90+ for over 35 miles the first day. "Break it in like you are going to drive it" is something I have heard all my life and never believed it until now. Mine uses less than one cup (8oz) of oil between changes (7500miles). But I broke it in on dino oil for 10,000 miles and have had nothing but Mobil 1 5W30 in it since.

I broke my engine in on the factory oil, then changed it at 1,000 miles, then again at 3000. I used factory oil up until 7,000 miles, then i switched to Mobil 1 fully synth. I have noticed that I have to add oil in between oil changes a lot. I have not thought to mention it to the dealer, but I am going to next time. I dont think I have to add an entire quart, but maybe half every 3000 miles. It depends on how much I drive on the highway (more driving on the highway burns more oil, im guessing because of higher rpms?)

What would be the best way for someone to know about Oil Consumption problem before they actually purchase a 05/06? Does this problem always ac cure early on? What would be the tips to look out for a 05/06 oil consumpting G35?

Thanks
