New around here..why does my 03 6mt title say "Lemon Law"

I've been doing quite a bit of reading here, including a bulk of the TSB on rev-up engines at 129 pgs, and other issues.

I just got my 03 6mt with 113k. The title says Exempt and Lemon Law under the mileage. The car runs fine, is modded and I don't know any history on it yet. It was below L on the dipstick the other day. I've only had it about 4 days now and due to the torrential rain for most of those, only put about 65 miles on it so far. It has used 1/4 tank of gas.. :/

So.. is there a database or registry that you can enter your VIN and gain some insight? Would carfax contain this type of info?

I picked this car up cheap, but I'm supposed to be dailying it while I complete other projects..this was supposed to be the reliable one..

Any help appreciated.

here is a pic of the title.. would this non rev up engine have been replaced at some point? or more than once? what leverage could that offer on future claims, if any?

My guess would be it was found to be a lemon by a dealership or previous owners, potentially after an accident. A Carfax would be able to clear that up...or that it to a dealer and have them run the VIN. Some can do it over the phone, some choose to be lame.

did you top off the oil to F? monitor the oil reduction rate..
maybe the engine is burning abnormal amount of oil.

I hope you got a good deal because your resell value is going to be pretty worthless when you sell in the future.

yes, I got a good deal. yes I topped up the oil. yesterday I changed the oil, pulled the spark plugs and found them to apparently be original, as they are worn all the way down, and also am installing 4 new O2 sensors.
I have a buddy that is a Nissan master tech, so I may have him run the VIN for me and see if that sheds some light.

Owners can apply to claim lemon law when their new vehicle keeps breaking down prematurely. This is usually suspension or engine related. Usually the dealership replaces the car and sell the lemon super cheap to let someone else deal with it.

hmm so it could be anything really. thanks for the info. still have yet to get the VIN run by my dealership friend. maybe that will clear it up. wonder if that would be on a carfax report?

Lemon law is when the manufacturer steps in and buys back the car. Original owner should have had experienced a repeating of faults with the car where Infiniti USA stepped in and bought the car back....
