car pc in the works
So I currently have an xbox360 in my g. Its cool and fun but I rarely get to use it and the controllers fly all over my trunk. Im just not into xbox enough to make it a real project (make controller holders for each seat etc...) So Since I already have all the wiring in place Im going to do a car pc. One thing im having an issue with is the control of it. I want to keep the stock screen obviously that is not much of a choice for us. Does any one know if its possible to tap into the touch screen part of the screen and route it to a usb device? or has anyone added a second touch screen layer on top of the OEM one? if not I think im going to implement a space navigator into the lid of the cup holder and put a dvd drive along with the front panel ports in the glove box. Thanks!

its very easy to tap the touchscreen wiring to your oem screen. ill find some other threads regarding this topic for you. you cannot, however, put a second screen over the OEM one and continue to use the OEM nav (which you probably already knew).
essentially you'll isolate the 4 wires for the touchscreen and interface them to a USB controller (which you can get for cheap). people in the honda/acura community have done this before too. you're better off using the OEM touchscreen because of sensitivity and glare reduction (i've considered buying an OEM touchscreen for those very reasons and installing it).
cheers!

this thread will give you a good flavor for how to go about with what you want to do. this guy used the OEM touchscreen as the input to his carPC.

I will be using the stock Aux input for audio and video. Thanks for the link, I will check it out now.. I also found this but it did not help much. http://angrycamel.com/projects_page/...erface-module/
I got a case today (I just finished building my pops a new computer so I took his old case and PSU which are perfect for what I need.) Now, I will see if my sponsors will send me some goodies for the project!

The oem nav screen is very low resolution (640x480) I would look into another route. I did an install a couple years ago in my G35. Here is the thread, maybe it will give you some ideas:

I have since upgraded the computer to an I5/4GB/1TB

I have seen that before and its absolutely sick and If I had a first gen G35 I would do the exact same thing. But unfortunately, everything in the new models runs through the stock screen making it nearly impossible to go any other route. Looking at the guy who did this on his Tsx, does it work the same was for us? 4 wires for usb (signal and power) into a controller to USB interface? It was hard to follow what he was saying because his pictures are not their anymore. For my computer, Im going i7-2600 (sandy bridge) with 3 128 corsair SSDs in raid 5 with 6 gb of gskill ram. Have not decided on the motherboard yet.. I know your going to say its overkill but im a computer hardware ***** haha.. Here is some of my work..

yes, setting up the touchscreen will basically be the same. get the power wires and x/y wires and interface them to the controller. from what it sounds like it won't pose much of a challenge for you.
the stock touchscreen for the 07-08s has a decent resolution if you're using VGA signals so you should be fine with it provided you set up the video input properly. going through the aux input you're going to lose some quality for sure but the upside is that it's obviously a money saver.
