Akebono BBK over Sport brakes

Akebonos have the much larger rotors for more rotor surface area for better braking & heat sinking. The larger aluminum calipers also provide much better heat sinking along w/ 4pot fronts. Daily driving the difference won't be as noticeable but on an extended day at the track the difference would be pretty dramatic .

Akebonos will certainly help firm up the pedal on the street, and give you a bit better braking (if driving very hard)
Rotor sizes differ: Akebono fronts are 355mm and the 07-08 Sport front rotors are 330mm.
The larger sizes really help when on track, large rotors and calipers dissipate heat better and can handle more heat as well.
Compared to other calipers such as Brembo, AP or StopTech, Akebono calipers are priced very competitively.

It would make a difference, though usually when it's someone's first time on a track, you don't drive hard enough to really work the brakes.
I would recommend getting decent pads (like hawk hp+, stoptech super-street, etc), and good dot 4 brake fluid (like ate 200, motul, etc.) and going to the track. If you like it enough to think about going back repeatedly in the long run, then start looking at upgrading your brakes.
