Testing head light bulbs before installation? (9006)

Does anyone know how to test a 9006 fog bulb without having to install it?

I've gone through one set of dead bulbs and a pair of PIAA's that were the same colour as the stock '08 fog colours and I'd like to be sure these bulbs work before sending the old one's back (as at least one of them worked). Can i use a household outlet or perhaps a seperate small battery?

If you can, please let me know,

You could probably get a 9006 socket from NAPA and wire it up to the battery to test it. I figure that would be the cheapest way.
