Can anyone tell me how this process is done...

Hey guys - Im working on a lil project and I want to "coat" the said item with this clear coat type layer as seen on this pic (on top of the cf):

What process does this? clear powder coating? fiber glass? clear plastic coating? I have no idea... anybody know?

Thanks guys.

(I took the pic of the other thread about the CF diffuser... lol, hope thats okay).

I believe that's a resin coating over the CF fabric.

I think that is just carbon fiber.

it looks like a clear coat. just go to any auto body shop and get a quote to have a layer of clear sprayed on it.
and it is not something i would suggest doing yourself. you will prob run into a lot of problems if you try to rattle can it.

Here's a quick link I found while doing a google search:

http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=351082

It is resin, not paint.

It's a clear coat go to your local body shop and ask them to spray a clear over it. Almost all companies clear there carbon parts because most resins do not protect against UV rays and will start yellowing sooner or later. Resin will have a nice gloss to it , but over time it will go yellow. so Just get your part cleared.

It is most definitely the resin they used when they did the fiber layup. I usually use west systems 105. It all depends on how much you use.

thats it,

carbon is made using resin, they just use a little extra on the face,

you could clear coat and buff it to get a nice shine,

some times u can just buff the resin too if ur good

You bring up a good point though, you probably can get by just spraying a part with several layers of clear until you got the look you wanted. I think that's the only thing you could do after the fact to add more gloss.

hey thanks for all the input guys. Much appreciated.

I think im gonna attempt the clear coat first over top the carbon fiber cloth.. see how that goes.. if it fails, I can easily redo it and get it professionally done with a resin coat; or something to that effect.

Much appreciated =)

Clement - Interesting idea... Im gonna brainstorm that idea and see what I come up with.
