Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights
Also, decreasing OD will increase engine rpm at a given speed, and vice versa.
BTW: couldn't edit my previous post - is there some trick i'm missing?

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights
A larger OD would increase speed to a point, but the added weight of the tire is going to make the engine work harder to spin it up, reducing your acceleration, and also having a negative effect on top speed.
As for 40/17's v. 45/19's.. that's mostly true, but you have to take the whole tire size into consideration to get the outside diameter. For instance, a 225/40R17 and a 145/45R19 are only 0.2% off -- but your statement is mostly true, as those who upgrade to larger rims usually go same-or-wider, not narrower.
As for editing posts.. it's a forum bug. Sometimes some users can't -- the problem is known, but the solution still evades the admins.

I have a set of 245/45/18's on the rear of my Sedan.
Im going to get the Eibach Pro Kit to drop it one inch BUT..before I do that Im going to have to put some 225/45/18's or I will rub all over.
I was also considering keeping my setup and just rolling the lip on the fender.......pondering setup still.

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights
I got tired of continually checking different tire sizes using the miata calculator. So i made an excel spreadsheet of all the different sizes of tires and rims and compared it to the original size on the sedan. I figured some of you out there might find this useful.
Tires with diameter within 1% of the original size are colored green. Those within 3% are colored yellow.
<a href=http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/apd6/TireSizeComparison.html> Tire Size Comparison </a>
Also, if you want to download the spreadsheet to change the initial value, here it is:
<a href=http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/apd6/TireSizeComparison.xls> Tire Size Comparison SpreadSheet </a>
It essentially tells you the useful tire/rim sizes for a particular vehicle given the original tire sizes.
Enjoy!

Anyone know the rim weights for the 18" wheels or where I can find that info?
<hr></blockquote>
Go back to the first post in this thread and pay attention to the available links. Either that, or look for the manufacturer's website, especially if it's a fairly new rim.

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights
OK, I'm not the smartest guy in the world, as far as how to interpret this chart. If I want to put an all season tires on the front of my coupe with the 18 inch package, what size can I go to without rubbing, or messing up any of the computer stuff? Currently it is the 225/45/18, and I want to find a size that will fit in a Mich Pilot A/S. They make it for the OEM rear size, but not the front. Thanks for the help!

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights
I made a spreadsheet to show the overall tire diameters and profile heights for 19/20" tires in comparison to the stock diameter of the coupe. Hope it's useful.

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights
I have the stock 18" wheels with 225/45 front and 245/45 rear. I would like to keep the stock 18" x 8" but put as wide a tire as I can on the stock 18" x 8", will 265/45 on rear and move the current rear 245/45 to the front work?
Will the stock 18" wheels hold the 265's or will they ballon out?

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights
Thanks for all the replys, from the advice it sounds like the safest sizes are 245/40/18 & 255/40/18.
The only other question is should I go with 255/40 or 255/45 in the rear, does the varience from front and rear add together?
Meaning 245/40 show (-1%) and 255/45 (1.3%) Totaling 2.3% between.
Although just adding the mm is appear the 245/40 & 255/40 are closer. Example: stock 225/45= 101 1/4 mm sidewall & 245/45=110 1/4 sidewall, a 9 mm difference.
If I go with 245/40= 98 mm sidewall and 255/40= 102 mm sidewall, a 5 mm difference. But if I go with 245/40= 98 mm sidewall and 255/45= 114 3/4 mm sidewall, a 16 3/4 mm difference ( way off stock).
If I did this correctly it appear 245/40 & 255/40 are my best options.
