Offset Calculator / Tire stretch Guide
Here are some tools that are handy, I figured I would sticky them so they will be handy.
Offsets calculator
http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/WheelOffsetCalc.html
This one has some basic information that explains what offset means and how it is measured
Tire size calculator
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
This is good for making sure your tire specs are similar to oem so that your vdc does not go crazy.
Tire stretch
http://www.tyrestretch.com/index.php
good visual examples of what size tire vs what size rim (note different brands will stretch differently)
Rimtuck
http://www.rimtuck.com/
Examples of fitment with all specs of wheels and tires.

Same calculator as above, on a different web site - just in case their service is down.

i was told by a tire place that if i go 285/30/19 in the rear of my 2006 coupe, it'll ruin my traction control...they also said the recommended was 275/35/19 or 285/35/19....285/30/19 seems the ideal size for me, but supposedly its not recommended......any help???

265/40 is what I would run you could also stagger if you'd like and do a 245/35 in the front. You can stagger tires even if the wheels aren't staggered.
You might actually feel you need spacers once the wheels are on the car, maybe 5 or 10mm just to get a little closer to the fender.

If anyone wants an offset calculator on the go I use "Wheel Matching" by Maverick Software for the iPhone. Its a free app and I just started using it because the offset calculator I was using on the web (http://marksink.com/cgi-sys/suspendedpage.cgi) is no longer being hosted online.

Don't want to bump a thread that is too too old but this is a nice wheel offset calculator that I've been using for a while now. It shows a visual of the wheels. My only gripe is that it doesn't have widths larger than 10".
