You had to pull the kickplate trim off?
I didn't see this as a necessary step, so I was hoping to find a DIY that only contains what's necessary.

Best advice is to shut off your A/C about 5 minutes before you get to your destination and allow the fan to dry the system out a bit.

My link above sells both filters.
The carbon filters are a bit better at removing funky smells, both inside and outside the car.
It's only a few bucks more, so it's worth getting the better filter.

Anyone have a vid from an 07+ install?
I'll make one soon...

I purchased my OEM in-cabin and air filters from West Covina Nissan's Ebay store: http://myworld.ebay.com/westcovinanissan

Cost me $50 for parts and shipping to the east coast.

Aesonvirus,
It's a real easy procedure, I snapped some pics when I changed mine out but unfortunately don't have access to them right now. If you follow the instructions here, it'll be easy:

So this thread made it into '07+ FAQs, and it's a video showing how to do it on a pre-07?

Allowing moisture to sit in your evaporator core causes moisture and mildew to grow in your filter as well. Changing it should help. If the problem persists, the problem is beyond the filter itself.

If the smell is coming from the air vents, the odor is in the evaporator core.
It can be taken care of by using this.
If you bring it to the dealer, they have a temporary fix of spraying a deodorizer into the vents.
Note that the deodorizer that the dealer is using is a temporary fix and will not remove the actual cause... it just masks it.
It's sorta like spraying perfume on a dirty dog.

The cabin filters remove particles and although the charcoal filter helps with smells a little bit, it's not going to help with the moldy smell. In fact, that mildew, if left untreated, will nasty up your new cabin filters twice as fast.

I have gotten into the habit of shutting off the A/C about 5 minutes before I get to my destination, but I leave the fan running. That moisture, over time, causes mildew and that nasty smell to occur.
This stuff takes care of it very quickly and easily.
(Assuming this smell comes from the vents)

Yes it does, it's funny though I mean Even if i dont' use the AC when i turn the ac on after a while there is this smell too, I guess i'll try the product, Do i just spray it into the vent or onto the filter itself? thanks.

I will add an 07+ specific video at some point. For now the 1st gen video will be helpful, but there are some "hidden" bolt when doing this for the 07+

There is a photo DIY floating around that explains it; search the forum.

This is not to use on the filter. It sprays into the venting system, foams up in the core and kills all of that crappy mildew and scum.
Removing the cabin filter and accessing the vent from there gets you close to the core. Don't just shoot it into your dash vents. The closer to the core you get, the better.

I haven't needed this stuff yet, but I have a few friends in the Lexus forum who have used it in their IS350's with stellar results. That's how I learned about it.

Good instructions, but pics would definitely help. Somehow I just knew that that kickplate trim removal (as seen in 06 video) wasn't necessary.

I used all the information in the posted video and could not force the glove box out. I went down to the dealer and they showed me the way they do it. Under the hood, remove the battery box cover, then remove the cover behind the battery box (it extends halfway across the car under the windshield) and you will have access to the filter. as all you need is a flat head screwdriver.
