Proximity Sensor for G35's with tints question!
 

Well I installed a viper 5900 in my car. I added the proximity sensor (where you walk up too close to the car it will go off or warn you). Problem is... i have tints. When my windows are rolled up, the proximity sensor doesn't go off. But if I put my hand over the front shield window, it goes off. When I roll down the window and walk close, it goes off. So my question here is:

Does tints(mine are 18-20%) have an effect on the proximity sensor? I maximized the proximity sensitivity already(results in paragraph 1). Anyone has the answer to this? Please let me know asap.

it obviously does have a significant effect on it. with that dark of tint, i don't think you'll need it on the side windows as much. they're probably going to use the windshield to get a better view of you inside belongings and that's when it'll warn them.

Dang... i wanted it to be strong enough where it will warn people when they walk close to the car at any angle. So people won't even try to key my car... LMAO! Would have been cool though if it was that strong...

I have the same issue. Just crank up the sensitivity a bit more or change your tint to a non-mettalic version. BTW...that will also help with the radio reception.

its not the darkness of tint that affects proximity, its the metalics inside most of todays tint that blocks it. The higher quality tints used today are metalic, so the dont fade andt urn purple over time...this metalic quality is what blocks the microwave...hence you can make it go off by waving your hand over the windshield, whcih is not tinted.

cranking the sensitivity hoenstly is not a solution i suggest, you have a sensitity too high, and yo uare going to get a lot of false alarms, espeially in the summer where heat affects the the promisity sensor..

so i would peronally live with it, i always found the outter of the dual zone promixity sensors useless...it doesnt deter people from doing something to the outside of your car, and it just causes it to chirp and beep all the time hehe, even with out tint, at my old shop we usually wouldnt turn the dual zone up very high...:)

lol don't crank it up. cause some people are like " wtf " wen your carbeeps at them for just walkin to close.. ex. when there are tight parking spots or when people walk between cars in parking lots.

I wasn't saying to crank it up all the way. I just cranked mine up to the point where it would beep when you were about 6 inches or so from the side door seal and about 3 or so feet from the front of the windshield. It works well enough for me and no false alarms either.
BTW, where is you sensor placed?

It works for some reason now... but not the back rear windshield and before that. I have it placed under the plastic cover near the radio(on the left side). It is visible... And I did crank it up high. Hahaha its funny to see people's reaction. But it is true how I shouldn't attract any attention to my car. My neighbor cat's are fu*king annoying. And I never had any false alarms (unless you consider the cat a false alarm). I may turn it down later on the future if it really pisses me off. But so far, I am liking it. =)

Gizsf, where did you place your proximity sensor?

Mine is in the center of the car. It is just a little under the shifter, underneath the plastic center console/ cup holder.
