Radar detectors!

Who uses what?

With what mount?

and how do you power it?

I was looking into the Escort 8500 x50 (http://www.escortradar.com/8500.htm), with a mirror mount (http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/350Z/Mount.htm), and the invisicord (http://www.invisicord.com/order.html).

Anyone use any of this? Comments?

i use that escort, it's a great detector,

i just use the mount that comes with it and the coil cord that comes with it.

there is only one radar detector in my book.....V1

I hate wires, even the invisicord, so I use a Escort Solo. Not the best, but I don't have to worry about cords.

I have had a V1 for over 12 years and never had any performance or use issues.

One additional feature Valentine offers is an electronics upgrade. You can enter your serial number into their site and receive a quote. I checked mine a couple of years ago and it was a $250 upgrade charge (I haven't done this yet).

I plan on ordering the invisicord and mirror mount this fall.

Lots of good units out there, so it would be hard to go wrong with one of the higher-end models.

Good luck!

can't go with Passport 8500 X50. It has the same range capabilities as the V1 or even the newer 9500i. The only difference is that V1 has directional arrows that show where the signal is coming from and also has a band that is NOT used in US or canada which Passport does not have.

pros for V1 are-

WIRELESS COMPLETELY BLUETOOTH
MOUNTS ON FRONT AND REAR BUMPER
COPS CANT FIND IT IF THEY LOOK
AND THE COOL LED YOU PUT IN YOUR DASH FOR THE WARNING LIGHTS

^^ oh that is the top model huh? I am looking for a windshield one. The one you are talking about is supposed to be the best but is hard on the wallet I am told

V1 + Mike's mount + Invisicord

ScubaSteve312 07-31-2007 01:15 PM

why do people use the invisicord, are they that afraid to just run it under the roof/windsheild lining to the a frame which just pops out, and then down behind the passengers power outlet...?

Joe_Camel 07-31-2007 01:28 PM

I have the Valentine1 w/ invisicord, bought the detector about 3 years ago when my 8500 was stolen, added invisicord last year. I could never go back to an Escort, gotta have the arrows. BTW I'm at almost 3 years without a speeding ticket and I almost always drive 10-15 over the limit in the city, the V1 has unquestionably saved me at least 5 times, but my eyes have probably saved me 10.

I'm not sure what product UltimateGee is talking about, but the V1 does not have bumper remote install options (windshield only), and doesn't support Bluetooth (i.e. it won't call your Blackberry when there's fuzz on the horizon).

Joe_Camel 07-31-2007 01:33 PM

ScubaSteve, the invisicord is way easier to install, you don't have to run wire under the interior trim panels, and it frees up a power outlet to plug in other stuff.

I have always heard the debate between V1 and escort but after reading V1's site I think I might go with that. seems pretty good but $400! man that is a lot. almost as much as the escort 9500i with GPS!

Running the Bel Rx65 Pro and using the windshield mount. Super long range, no false alarms, and remote alarm silencing. It has paid for itself 5x's over.:driving:

I personally have a V1 mounted up as high as possible to the left of the rearview mirror. I have my concealed display custom mounted in the ashtray. Once you have the arrows your done, you just can't go back. Now that Bel has fixed the STi, it's one hell of a detector. Especially for those of us that who live in VA and DC. A very reliable source stated that Valentine will have a fully stealth version within the next 6 months. VA state police just placed Spetre III orders a month or so ago. I haven't seen any in Northern VA and it's so crowded they wouldn't have any idea which car has the detector. I'm also going to purchase the remote display with different color LED's. This helps tremendously at night with both signal strength and radar band.

Deepdiver: Every single radar detector has false alarms. Some are better than others, but it's impossible to build a radar detector within a reasonable price point that doesn't have falses.
