Homelink question

Hi:

I am trying to program my homelink feature. I read about here. Step 2, it tells me to press two outside buttons to clear all channel. But if I do that, isn't it going to clear all the existing memory? Can't I just add another channel instead of do all three channel all over again?

Thanks.

The owner's manual lists a slightly different procedure where you can skip erasing the memory (if you want).

take an unprogrammed button and program like normal.

No need to reset unless you need to clear a button to make room.

I hold down the button I'm trying to program. But it just gives me a red steady light and nothing happens. Is it because I didn't hold it enough time? How long does it need is finish program?

From the owner's manual:

2. Position the end of the hand-held transmitter 1-3
inches away from the HomeLink surface.

3. Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the
HomeLink button you want to program and the hand-held
transmitter button. DO NOT release
the buttons until step 4 has been completed.

4. Hold down both buttons until the indicator light on
the HomeLink flashes, changing from a “slow blink” to
a “rapidly flashing blink”. This could take up to 90
seconds.
When the indicator light flashes rapidly,
both buttons may be released. The rapidly flashing light
indicates successful programming. To activate the garage
door or other programmed device, press and hold the
programmed HomeLink button - releasing when the device
begins to activate.

It says changing from a “slow blink” to
a “rapidly flashing blink”. But mine starts from steady red light, is that normal?

Looks like you'll be starting all over...

Reprogram them again; steady red means the button's already been programmed at some point....
