What's the power output from G35 battery?
 

Has anyone used a multimeter to check what the battery is putting out?

I think you're interested in the alternator's output, which is 110 amps.

Batteries can push a lot of amps for a short period of time.. anywhere from 400 to 1000 to get a big motor started in the dead of winter. You don't want to count on that to run a radio with the engine off for a long time, though. Batteries have a rating called Reserve Capacity, usually about 2 hours. This is how long the battery can maintain 10.5 volts or more at 25 amps.. enough to keep the engine, headlights, defroster, wipers, etc. running if the alternator fails.

i think when the engine is not running, it is 12 volts. when the engine is running, it should be 12-14 volts.

I have a voltmeter hooked up to my system and when the car's running it's 14.1. Not running is 12.0.

14.1? BEAUTIFUL... that means the Alpine is running pretty close to spec (the #s are calculated based on 14.4V)

Lowest I've gotten was 11.8 when not running and highest 14.2 when running. On average, I get about 13.8.

13.8 is what an alternator normally outputs.

13.8 is actually pretty high.. I'm glad, that means I'm getting pretty close to the 14.4V that alpine specs their amps with.

I'm adding 2 amps, 1000.1 and a 600.4 Precision Power. My question is, will I need a more powerful battery or will the stock battery be ok? Last thing I want is to be stranded with a dead battery!!!

My AVIC-N1 can tell me the voltage output. When engine is on, I get between 13.8 to 14.1 volts.

the avic-n1 manual says that the voltage should be between 12-15 with the engine running.
Of course when the engine is off, it will be around 12 and eventually go down to the 11's as you suck more juice you would think...

Remember guys that instantanious battery voltage doesn't mean much when it comes to installing subwoofer amplifiers. The current draw from the amplifier will pull the voltage down.

Current output from the alternator is a much better spec to go with. We should have someone measure current draw while driving down the street, then it would be possilble to work backwards from the 110amps that was listed above to see if your electrical system is capable of handling the added load.

If you're putting in a big high-current system that requires more power, the battery won't be your problem.. you'll nead a heavy-duty alternator with a higher amp rating.

Think of electricity as a river.. voltage is the speed, and amps is how big (deep/wide) the river is. That's why high-current wires are bigger, and skinny wires will fry if you push too much current through them.
