Hey guys

After 6 months of fighting with various dealers to replac emy screwed up CD changer (non-bose) I finally got it done at Concord Infiniti. I must say that that dealership is justgreat - super mod-friendly. Ask for Vince to work on your car and Andrew Northop to be your service advisor.

The scratchy sound that was audible over the music is GONE while using CDR's.

But here is what I really wanted to say. I did some extensive research with a variety of CDR's in our cd players. Here are my findings:

The very best CDRs with the longest shelf life and one that results in the lowest C0 and C1 error rates has always been known to be the Taiyo Yuden 52x media - which uses the cyanine dye. I use the very best CD burner out there - the one that produced the absolute best quality burns - the Plextor Premium 52x32x52 burner. The beauty of this drive is that you can actually vary the power of the burning laser, thus making deeper vs. shallower pits in the dye.

So after very many permuations of recording speed, laser power, and media type, i found out that my stereo was UNABLE to play the songs clearly on the TY media. But one came out ahead, way ahead - the AZO based CDR's. Te difference is like night and day - the static is completely GONE. So, if you have the early 2003 G35 and are having problems with cdrs, try azo-based cdr blanks. Unfortunately the only one that makes them now is Verbatim - their Vinyl series CDR's with AZO technology.

That's a whole lot of research, good job. I've just used Memorex CD-Rs since day one on my Sony DVD-R drive, and I've never had a single skip or problem with clarity. Could just be luck...

Than you hvae one of the good ones or one ofthe new ones, who knows. But i used the memorex one - I will not even hear the music, that is if the cd plays at all

 

I'm in an Oct. build 03.5... perhaps they'd figured out the problem by then.

Great info on the brands! I happen to have some of those Verbatin Vynls, good to know that they play well on marginal drives.

My stack of Office Depot CD-Rs as well as the other miscellaenous brands I've put in my 2003.5's Clarion work just fine, no problems at all. If you were getting scratchy results with CD-Rs on your old unit, it was probably not calibrated properly and I'd be willing to bet you would eventually have had issues with some storebought CDs also. I've had many, many CD head units, and every one of them that went south with CD-Rs also did so with storebought CDs not too long after.

I'm on my second radio though, the first not only had problems "scratching" with CD-Rs, but also had trouble with storebought CDs after running for an hour or so, wound up with a CD ERR F0. The new one has been completely trouble free.

 

Exactly the problems I had... It would start to not play the disks after about an hour of operation.

This one seems to be good, i though i heard a scratch on one of the non-AZO cdr's, but it is still far better than my frst one.
