***Automatic G's with Bass problem***
Hey guys I have a 2004 automatic G35. Heres the problem.
I have installed hundreds of systems in cars and have never ran into a problem like the one in my G. Everytime the bass hits hard in the car the car stutters as if the fuel pump is getting cut off. I have a 500/1 JL audio amp with a 10w6 subwoofer all hooked up to my double din Avic Z2. I hooked the system up with the stock battery then I started to have the jerk everytime the bass hit. Then I upgraded the battery to the Optima Red 34R with a Kinetix 600 battery in the back and it still does it. I know there are plenty of you automatic G's with these same problem. For some reason the manual G's dont. Please chime in and comment if you found a solution or can help me out. |
Are you running a cap?

i got exactly the same problem. Solution was to replace my battery with yellowtop optima. I dont have that problem anymore even when I crank it up really high. Its either a power or ground issue, so check your ground as well.

you guys need to get a capacitor-it will help your battery life last longer

No cap for me and I have 10w6 with as well. Everything works great now with optima yellowtop replacement.

I just did my system a couple of weeks ago with an Alpine 600w running the sub and a 400w running the internal speakers and don't have that problem at all. My lights don't even dim when I'm pumping the system. It may be that the new Alpine PDX amps are so much more efficient then many other amps, but something else sounds wrong. Also, just adding batteries to the system won't do anything if the alternator can't charge them. You should see what the voltage drops to when you're pumping the system. If it drops down below 12v then the only thing that will help is a high output alternator.

I'm having the same problem with my system when it's up high..my lights don't dim it just feels like my car is stuttering..Will a cap fix my problem??

I have put in a ton of systems and It just doesnt make sense. I know the ground is perfect and ive tried a million and 1 caps. They dont do anyting. I have a Kinetix 600 battery hooked up now and still nothing.
I know putting a high output alternator will probably fix the problem but that cant be the only solution. I put 2 15" solo barics with a 2000 watt amp in my 2005 civic with no cap or upgraded battery and I didnt have any problems. I just dont get it. Maybe I should try the yellow top optima. I think it goes through deeper cycles than the red top 34R that Im running now... BTW im pretty curious as to where you guys are mounting your ground. |
caps do nothing but stain your battery even more....where do you think the cap is getting its charge from? Your electical system has to work harder to keep your cap charged. It does no good.
your problem lies elsewhere where is the ground located? Try grounding directly to the battery |

I was going to upgrade the alternator, but decided to add a extra battery to the car. Solved the problem. Caps are a band aid...My wife's FX is the opposite the amp cuts out. (crossfire)

This problem used to drive me nuts. Whenever the bass hits hard the car feels like jerking or cutting power and I thought I was having transmission issue. My stock battery was still fine and I didnt see the light dimming at all. My ground point is on the body near the stock bose amp. I simply took out a bolt and sanded the body behind it to mount my ground point. I experimented with different grounding places, but did not have any effect. After replacing the battery with yellowtop, I never had this problem anymore. I had grounding kit as well, but I dont think it makes any difference.
