I spoke to some guy over at nav-tv.com who said they have a kit for the G35 that only car shops can get which they can install an external video source switch where you can plug in any video device and it will display it on the screen.

I guess what he meant is you'll have to get that plus you will need to get a portable DVD player. I'm still thinking about it ...

seems like a great solution ... given the stealth look of the pop-up nav .. its a little expensive tho .. I think the kit is about 1100 or 1200 USD ... + the cost of a dvd or xbox ... wonder if these are the only guys to have this sort of thing ...

I definitely want the same but not at that price. There has to be some other way to make it work! I haven't been able to find anything yet, but I'll keep looking.

The Infiniti uses a DVD player for its GPS... I have heard there are ways to use that without buying a new DVD player.
Does anyone know?

Been researching this all day. Looks like people on this board are probably getting tired of answering this question over and over again.

I have read you could get an "inline" DVD decoder that will work with the Nav unit and allow it to play DVDs. I don't understand how that could work or what to use to accomplish this.

However I could see buying a mobile DVD/TV Tuner unit like the Power Acoustik PADVD-90T with a built in FM modulator. You could splice the video in with a source selector. You can switch the video source back and forth from the nav unit to your DVD player. The sound would be sent to your stereo with the FM modulator. Seems logical. Does anyone know if there would be a problem with that? If not, I will give it a shot, if I ever get my freakin car in! I will let you know how it works out.

I am very interested also. Another option to the FM modulator is to use the SAT input if you are not using that for something like XM.
