I had this happen to me before and it ended up being my clock spring.
after I replaced my clock spring everything was working ok.
my car is a 2006 g35.
let me see if there’s a difference between 06 and 07 SWC wires
EDIT:
did you hook up the 3 wires correctly?
1 is ground and I know it’s right because vol up works
the other 2 wires are divided.
1 controls vol up, seek up and voice
1 controls vol down, seek down and mode

I used iDatalink SW for my steering wheel controls. It has way more options on what buttons do.
For mute in my car I press and hold volume down for 2 sec and let go to mute the radio.
i have short press and long press setup so each button can do 2 things.
i do not remember the wire colors on the wire but if you look at the pic connect to the correct pin in the connector and you will be good.
ASWC may not support mute feature in some cars. I never tried it in my car so I can’t compare.
i went with iDatalink maestro from the door because of the extra options and easier installation but it’s more expensive then aswc.
