I would like to say thank you for this right here.. I went down to the stereo shop i have been going to for like 9 years and unfortunately they just changed owners.. When i asked the new owner if i would lose my navi he said i would.. plus i didnt trust him after he quoted me 2 times the value of a radio i was lookin at.. and was still tryin to sell me the "extras" when it came with the damn thing lol.
Good write up!!

Can I use the factory navigation system with a double-din unit?
Are you sure? My installer says I can't have the navigation and a double din unit.
Your installer is wrong. You will lose the nav voice without taking extraordinary measures, but the nav works just fine with factory nav installed, however, If you plan to keep your factory navigation system, you need to do the JDM route.

Here's proof - both 03-04 and 05-07:

Fine for the 03-04's but definitely not worth the fugliness that is a 05-07 Metra kit.

Very little of what I did here was original work (lots of cleaning up and research) but as I've said before, I've just put some time and effort into improving other people's time and effort.

Now, in a couple of weeks, when I video a complete audio system overhaul... well that'll have its own rewards ;) but that'll be some definite original stuff.

If this list has been used successfully, post up pictures of the complete install.

Testimonials as to accuracy and helpfulness of the list will only encourage others to do the right thing.

If I want to keep the stock nav why do I have to get the jdm instead of the metra? and is there a way to use the stock climate control buttons?

Because the metra doesn't fit with it. See this overlap?

The metra only comes in that size. The special JDM face for stock navi is that 1/8th inch shorter to fit without overlapping. You might be able to get creative with a dremel though, but that's advanced install that is beyond the scope of this guide.

No, you cannot use the stock buttons unless you're an electrical engineer, handy with a dremel, and pretty much capable of making a circuitboard from scratch.

Oh I see thank you so much for all the help I ordered most of my parts and will order that and use this guide to install it

im in the middle of installing double din (DNX5120), I took out the stock stereo, and I am amazed out how much plastic is behind there, i have a few questions,
1. Where is the best ground point
2. is there a harness I can buy or connector to insert to install the PAC SWI to the g35 swc so I would'nt have to cut the harness?
Thanks

1) Commonly used ground point is the two screws at the bottom of the metal frame that holds the radio console section in place.
2) Not really, but if you get quick-splice connectors you don't have to cut the harness.

This is a great write up, very informative. After reading through the thread, I am a little confused if I need a 70-7551 or 70-7550. I have an 03 sedan with bose, no nav. I am replacing just the factory H/U, not tearing out wiring or replacing amps or adding subs, non of that. I want to continue to run everything through the bose amp and speakers. Just to confirm, which wiring harness should I go with?

Wrathernaut Jul 24, 2010 12:54 PM

The instructions are year and bose/no bose. Not sure how less complicated it could get :dunno:

Bose = PAC ROEM-NIS2, non-bose 70-7550.

phisig Jul 24, 2010 07:23 PM

Thanks so much for the swift reply. Ordering the 70-7551. I was thinking about it and while it wouldn't look that great, I wonder if a factory 350z bose head unit would be plug and play with a g35 bose system.

Ok I have a question. I just got my PAC SWI-PS in and I can't get it to program. I think I have the diodes in wrong. Is there a write up on installing it? I have the 47 and 150 amp diodes on t white wire (to the SWI) running from the green and red wires (from the car harness) but its not working. Am I doing something wrong? Any guidance or write up/pics would be greatly appreciated!
