Can't hear music from driverside's speakers

Hi all
my G driverside's speakers acted up yesterday. I could only hear a tiny sound if i turned the volume all the way up and changed FAD all the way to left. The passenger side's speakers were fine. Did anyone have the same problem? btw, I have indash Bose with 6 discs....:confused2::confused2::confused2::confuse d2:

Does it only happen with CDs? If so it's the ribbon cable.

If it's all sources, it could also be the ribbon cable, but also might be the amplifier or the radio has gone out.

Thanks for the reply Wrathernaut. I play around with the HU today, change it from CD to Radio and all of the sudden, I can hear music from the driverside's speakers again. It's really weird.:icon43:
Anyway, I need your input on this problem again. If it really was the ribbon, is it located behind the HU and expensive to replace? or should I just go ahead and replace the stock HU with the aftermarket one since i have to open everything to get to the stock HU out? Thanks in advance.
I've read your post about DD resource and shopping list. You did a great job written up the info and it looks like it's gonna be time consuming to replace the HU.

It's not that bad to replace it, but yes, you'll have to completely remove the unit to adjust the ribbon cable.

Considering the frequent failure of the headunit though, you might as well take advantage of this excuse to upgrade to something aftermarket.

thanks a lot. I'll do more research and find out which one i really like until then, i guess i'm stuck with the acting up BOSE HU :o:o

I have this exact same problem quite often, and I got a great tip from a Nissan salesman about a year ago. Take your fist, clench tight, and bang the left side of the center console (right next to where your right knee would be when you are driving). Works every time for me, and no, I am not pulling your leg on this one.

That causes the ribbon cable to slightly shift, so if the ribbon is the problem that'll temporarily fix it.

Hmm it sounds like Bose HU has lots of potential problems. Do you guys think i should upgrade speakers as well when i'm buying a new HU or bose stock speakers are adequate enough? I'm the kind of person just like to enjoy nice a clear sound not too loud and obnoxious to the point that annoying other drivers.:D

willis555 Jun 29, 2011 04:13 AM

Did you try hitting the left side of the console?

The speakers are the least bad part of the system. They're not great, but the speakers aren't the reason the bose system is worse than the non-premium system. Replace the headunit and amplifier and it'll sound ok. Not great, but if you've been satisfied with the stock setup, it's a definite improvement.

This is just an early sign of your AC going all whacked out too... Fair warning

Haha, my name is Sam, Willis is an old nickname. :p

Anyways, mine did the same thing. Left speaker would be noticeably quieter than the right speaker ONLY when listening to CD's. When I switched to radio, however, the left speaker worked just fine. Then I got that nifty tip about hitting the left side of the console, and it worked!
