A MASSIVE TRIBUTE TO 4080's SKILLS! WELL DONE 4080! TAKE A BOW!
3 Attachment(s)
About 4 and a half months ago I bought 4080's subwoofer enclosure. However, It was only recently (2 weeks ago) that I took delivery of my new 2005 G35 coupe. I promised 4080 (way back then) that I would send praise of his work after I had it installed. The result is awesome. Everyone, please check out my pictures. Cargo net is still functionable. 8" JL subwoofer is a perfect fit for the enclosure. Sound is very good. 1600 watt 5 chanel Amplifier rests beneath the other custom enclosure (built by Tweeter of Charlotte NC). JL speakers replaced stock speakers. Original head unit remains. XM sounds very, very good.
Thank you 4080, your enclosure is of very high quality. __________________________________________________ _______________ 2005 Red on Wheat Automatic (NON-Sport model & Proud of it!) 8" sub with a 10"grill?
|
Yes, 8" sub in 10" grill.
That's one of the wonderful attributes of the 4080 enclosure! It's extremely flexable. If you don't like like it you can go scr*w yourself.

This particular customer want to use his 8" subwoofer with one of my boxes. I know the JL 8" subwoofer VERY well. I knew if I could port the box the little 8" would ROCK. I did not want the port to be seen, I wanted it to look like my other boxes. The 10" grill allowed me to mount the 8" sub up high while the port under the sub could breath. The pics do not show it but the small port is right under the sub. The box is tuned to 27 hz. This is one of my favorite boxes. I am more impressed with small subs that have high output and excellent sound quality (read not W7s). 4080 |
So that box is obviously not a universal box for any 8 or 10 inch sub- as there is no such thing. Every sub is different- and requires different specs. So what sub is that box made/tuned for? Per say- How would a Diamond Audio TDX 10" fair in that box?

Looks kinda similar to my Basslink. I am sure it makes tons more bass though. |

The JL 10W0, 10W6V2, and 10W3 all work between .625-.8 cuft. My Rockford P3 DVC works within .7-.9 cuft. These small variances in air space would "maybe" only noticed in a home environment. You will NOT notice a .2 cuft. variance of air space with the sub/box in the trunk of your car (not to mention traveling down the highway). Only very large 10" subs will not work like the W7. The only way that 8" will work is in a ported enclosure. The little 8 would only need .3-.5 in a sealed enclosure. So it is for the most part, universal.

i've got a 12" Solobaric L5 (square sub). Got an enclosure for that? hahaha... damn wish it was easy to install this one. I only need min 1cuft of air space. 50% fill.

Here are the pics with the cargo net. |
