DIY: Removing Front Plate Threaded Insert (Toggle Nut)

Some people have asked how the threaded inserts for the front plate are removed. If you have the threaded inserts through your front bumper cover, they can be removed for a cleaner look. No need to break them off or remove the front bumper cover. Keep the toggles and screws so you can re-install front plates if needed.

Plugs are optional at this point. The resulting hole is not very noticeable on darker colored cars.

Inserts in:

Inserts Out:

The Threaded Insert:

Push down on one side of the toggle with a paperclip. Only one end will move so if it doesn't move, try the other end:

Push until it is almost lined up (you can't go all the way):

Then poke it through the opposite side:

And line it up the rest of the way, then pull out the insert:

Put some mesh infront of the cooler that wont disrupt air intake and your car would be a sleeperER!! Terry your carl ooks nice without the plates, but are you going to do anything with the ICC soon, does not look too good.

I got the new bumper skin last summer and told the shop to not mount my plate.
I ran with the Stillen bracket for a while but that just sits in the trunk now.

Knock on wood, but no trouble from the "fuzz" yet.

Worse case, they pull me over, complain about the plate and I explain that I had to take it off for one reason or another, and I'll pull it out of the trunk and be on my way.

Aeson,

Do you have any pics with the Stillen bracket on your car? I'm thinking of getting one when I officially move from NC to NY later this year to avoid having to tap holes in my bumper.
